So my wife showed interest going on her first overnight backpacking trip, we’ve done lots of camping, but never anything away from a car. Not being one to miss an opportunity we hit the trail!

All packed up. Heavier than I normally go, but wanted to make the hike in as pleasant as possible.

Plan was to set up a mile or so in, then hike an 8 mile lollipop loop

Perfect day for hiking. And lots of falls

Was able to get a fire going with limited tools. Fire ban was still on when I looked a couple days ago, but looked again on our way there and it was lifted. So stopped by and got a Gerber folding saw (garbage) on the way there. It worked but wouldn’t make it through another trip.

Shortly after this, around 8, the skies opened up and it started pouring. Rained all night long and was raining all morning.

Rather than sit in the rain and eat oatmeal we packed up quickly and hit the trail back

Made it back to the car and grabbed a hot breakfast on our way back home. Great trip, with great company! Gave us time for just ourselves that has been a rare occurance now that we’ve got 2 youngins.

    Thanks for coming along!

Great trip! It looks like your wife handled the rain like a champ! I've never been to the PNW, but I've always admired photos of those mossy ferned conifer forests. And those waterfalls are amazingly inviting. I don't know whether I'd want to fish them more or go for a swim. :)

Great trip report and great company you had. My wife and I have three kids ten and under and we recently got a few days on our own on a cruise. As exciting as the thought of getting away from the kids for a couple of days, we always wind up missing them so bad and are looking forward to our return to be back with them. It’s such a bittersweet feeling, but I think every couple that has kids should try to make time for themselves every once in a while. I’m glad you had a good time despite the weather. Though you do live in the PNW so par for the course there.

Beautiful place for an outing. Well played with the gear, setup and hike.
How'd she do with the dirt floor? Guess you have cooler temps so the bugs weren't an issue?

Looks like a good trip. I'm impressed you got her to sleep on the ground.

Did you guys stay dry under the fly with all the rain?
