You know you’re a Bushcrafter when you pull up a picture of the inn that you are staying at on vacation and show your wife and daughter the stream that runs behind it. Then you inform them, “hey, with the sawyer that daddy just ordered we can drink from that.” :):):)

Discovering all your gear is multi-use gear. The importance of gear with many uses is just dawning on me as I learn more about bushcraft essentials, if you will.

... when you always have your silky saw in your backpack
... when you're constantly looking at the various herbs along the sidewalk
... when you always have a ferro rod in your pocket
... when you always keep a small hank of paracord in your pocket
... when you always have a steel striker in your backpack
... when you always have your blue foam sit-pad in your backpack

Just to name a few i'm quite guilty of :p Those are the staples anyways!

...when making a nice dinner FAST means getting your bush knife from the car because the house knives are too dull and clumsy.
Dinner was hash brown patties with riced cauliflower, cheddar cheese, onion, peppers, and grilled chicken strips. Topped with sour cream and onion powder.

Mac, I spend too much time in the most populated state (?) in the Union, and I have cut 3, THREE, trees out of the roadway prior to State resources getting to the location, including one 24+inch pine using a good double bit axe. It was bizarre, there must have been 50 cars backed up each side, including a landscaper with no chain saw. I just wanted to get home, so cut the tree enough that I could get a chain (of course) around each section and get it out of the road. 20 minutes later I passed CalTrans on the way, suspect they wondered how it got moved. Another time, CalTrans arrived just as I was finishing my first cut (with same axe), they bumped me out, and within ten seconds pinched their saw so I had to finish cutting with the axe to get the saw free. Carrying an axe, chain, hi-lift and knife (knives) in a vehicle anywhere on the left coast either makes you a bushcrafter or weird, or both. LOL.

my wife's been sending me out to the garage this evening, several trips. so far, along with bringing in her stuff, i've also gotten a new strop epoxied, and another coat of BLO on my hawk handle. she doesn't know, i think.....but we're both happy, and that's what counts, right?

.....when your bedtime routine includes stropping a knife or two. 4-5 days now i have touched up one blade or another before bed. feels good to know they're all shaving sharp! on a side note-i'm really realizing how much of a difference a loaded strop makes!! (saved me from pulling out a stone a day or two ago)

Does it count when your wife and daughter go to Alaska on a missions trip and bring you back birch bark and other tinder. Happened a couple years ago. Wish I could have gone.

When you cut and burn so many pieces of shock cord you grow accustom to the awful smell.

You know your a Bushcrafter when...your 2+ year inside old "set" of mouse traps start producing "hides".
It's time to buy more traps and now more regularly "check the trap line".

This year I'm going to double down on the yellow plastic cheese pad victors for interior and a few more one way steel traps for outside. The victors worked well on my garden vole issue this summer.

    I'm back trapping.:4:

I didn't want to derail the other thread. Kids turned drying blanket into a tent/fort. Sorry for the poor cell pic.
