The reason I use an analog dial is that you can use it as a compass. Position the watch so the sun is halfway between 12 and the minute hand, and the hour hand points north. Doc.

I haven't worn one in years, but this reminds me of a story. I used to work in a bar as a bouncer back in my college days. It was a place where many of the Buffalo Bills would stop by on weekends after practice during training camp. One of the running backs was know for being flashy and showing off his expensive things. He was showing off his Rolex to some people and said, "Look at this, it cost me $5,000". One of the defensive lineman overheard him and said, "Yeah, well my Timex cost me 10 bucks and it tells the same time as yours." Things got quite then. :D

I'm done with expensive watches. In fact the watch I have now is a $20 Casio. It shows the time (analog only for me), has luminous hands, and it's all plastic. When it craps out I'll buy another one if they still make them. I have various more expensive watches in my various junk boxes, all broken, too expensive to fix. I have several Timex Expeditions and they are good watches for a while, then they fall apart, break, or the battery runs down (and is a bitch to replace). I think the quality of the Timex Expeditions has really gone downhill over the years.

I wear a Android smart watch from Casio. It's a WSD F10. You can change the watch face from your Android Phone. It has Compass, GPS, Barometer, Altimeter, Weather monitor. It can also track 3 other WSD F10's bearings.

My cell phone is all the time I need .
I don't wear rings or jewelry either .
As a mechanic ,it's too dangerous to be wearing any thing that can jeopardize you or your work.
If I'm in the woods ,the last thing I care about is time.
Now that I'm retired, it's even less important.

I only have a Rolex because I can and there won't be any in Heaven so I figured if I wanted one, I had better get it while I can.

My wife bought me this Citizen E820 7 or 8 years ago as an anniversary gift and I still love it. I wear it any day I am not in the woods or doing some other manual labor. For that stuff I have a cheap casio digital watch.

I have kicked around the idea of a black faced Submariner with SS band for years. By far my favorite style of watch. My brother bought a two tone with blue face ~10 years ago, and keeps telling me to just do it.. Maybe some day.. There are just so many other things in the $3k - $5k price range that I want (non-watch related I mean) so it always gets bumped..

In most areas of life I am a total luddite. (I only carry a smart-phone under duress.) But in the case of my watch I wanted something that fit my philosophy that my key PSK elements should always be attached to my body or in my pockets.

This Casio G-shock is solar-powered, atomic-clock-synched, has an accurate digital compass and altimeter-barometer. Oh, and I forgot, it can tell time too.:4:

My Casio g-shock. My fiance bought it for my birthday 3 years ago. I have abused the hell out of it ever since. The face is scratched to hell, the band is kinda chewed up, and she is still ticking like a champ. Love this watch.

I wish I never got this watch! My old beater Casio Pathfinder 1300. It went on my wrist 16 years ago, and put two of my Rolex watches into the gunsafe. It's light, accurate, solar, etc. it does everything and has been with me on many continents. You only wear a regular watch in Cambodia.

I love the thing. It's been in the body cavity of many big game animals. It's gone off a cliff with me in Thailand. It is very worn out, and it will bum me out when I can't find any parts.

I bought one of these watches at the PX back in 2012 when i joined up with the army. It was before BCT so I abused the hell out of that thing, it was so scratched up you couldn't read any of the buttons and the screen was barely visible but it still worked for 4 years until i lost it. I went swimming countless times, rolled around in the mud, banged it off the ground doing push ups that thing was a beast. Cost me 20$.. i got a new one but it doesn't feel the same :(
    [IMG]
I wish i could find it. Hahaha i remember i was at the mall and some guy was trying to sell me a new watch saying mine was ugly, i turned him down said "Nah my watch will outlast that piece of junk"

My favorite watch that I wear every day no matter if I'm at home or in the woods: a Casio Pathfinder PAG240T-7CR. A glance at the home screen tells me the exact time and date as well as the barometric trend. I use the barometer and altimeter whenever I'm in the woods and have the compass as a backup to my GPS. The sunrise/sunset are important for legal hunting. The world time and stopwatch are useful but I use the timer daily for my tea. I don't use the record function or alarm. The solar powered watch has taken a beating and "still keeps on ticking". (Remember that ad?)

I have several watches but these two are special. The First aHamilton Railway special belonged to my father. I wear it when convenient.

The second, the Omega,my wife purchased it as my Retirement gift when we were in Chicago on vacation. She would not let me wear it when I went to Africa, so it is a GMT watch that has never left the USA Centeal time zone. 50E07DCC-0096-4683-9A2D-638B87538E87.jpeg 412B736D-B1C4-48A8-9C2A-AF8C4555857C.jpeg

Today is it my beloved Casio Duro MDV-106 diver. Paired with a Blue Shark Nato, it is comfortable, casually classy, and prepared for whatever you can throw at it. I thoroughly enjoy the simplicity of this watch. As a beater, you can’t beat it.

I have come to prefer the slimmest, least bulky wrist watches possible because they are otherwise a PITA with multiple layers of winter clothing (making sleeves too tight at the cuffs and restricting movement) and gauntlet style gloves - where you can’t get the cuff part over the watch.

With multiple layers of clothing, it sucks to hike up the cuffs off the sleeves to reveal the watch so you can read it. The bigger the watch and the more the clothing, then the bigger the suck.

I also always seem to get wrist watches stuck in the sleeve hole as I put on jackets.

“Archer’s cut” clothing have very slim forearms and those also suck immensely with all but the slimmest wrist watches. My favorite jackets seem to have very slim cuffs and they suck with big watches.

These days, I wear a Tudor Oyster Prince Automatic that is what used to be called a “junior” sized case because it is small and slim.
