    Handle for Marbles outdoor axe

Hi everyone. This is my first post here but I have kept a small collection of knives for many years. I recently picked up a Marbles outdoor axe to use this year when I go camping and I didn't realize just how small the handle is. It's a great length but my sausage fingers make it feel really...

Attach axe head with screws to wooden handle?

Is it possible to attach an axe head to its wooden handle with metal screws? This could be done in different ways: A. These screws might be screwed from both sides into the end of the wooden handle, that protrudes from the top of the axe head. B. I could drill holes in the side of the axe...

Issues with cutting axe handle blank

Having some issues cutting out a axe handle blank from a piece of ash using a jig saw. The blade is new and barley moving. It is boring up in the wood. Is it better to just use a draw knife to bring down the shape?

    Grain Orientation

Just a quick reminder to everyone that Grain Orientation and even the more important Run-Out don't always matter. If your handle isn't "perfect" don't stress. I've got much "worse" handles still going. This one was added to the list of crap that broke this weekend. Mann Edge True American...

    Whipping and beeswax based coating

Greetings, Thought i'd try my hand at whipping and making a beeswax & BLO mix paste for coating the handle, jute rope included. I got a bit careless passing the flame to burn away the frayed ends and touched on the wood. The mix solidified as a paste, so good news for first attempt...

DIY Wood finishes/waxes and their differences.

I'm reading another thread where a gentleman accidentally treated his leather axe mask with teak oil it occurred to me that I haven't seen a lot regarding wood finishes here. Did a little research and can see that BLO (boiled linseed oil) is what comes up most often. For good reason of course...

A Tale of Two Axe Handles

A while back at a flea market I got this cute little axe: Here it is with some of the pits near the business end filed out and a six-inch rule for comparison: I'd been aching to make a handle for it so I stole some time and grabbed a chunk of ash I'd saved from some storm-cleanup a year ago...

    Swedish KB43 Axe Refinishing

I got this 3/4 Swedish surplus axe from SG recently. It was ugly when I got it, of course. Some stripping and sanding produced a nice looking light axe. I put the linseed oil on this afternoon: It bites deeply, and is very handy. 21.5 inches total length, but only 2 1/4 pounds...

Differences b/w Belt & Wildlife Hatchets

Hello all, I'm looking at purchasing a Wetterlings Belt/Small or Wildlife hatchet. It will serve the purpose that any other hatchet would; splitting wood for kindling, making stakes, and just general camp craft. I had my eye set on the Wildlife hatchet until I saw BushTramp's splitwood prep...

Found and Restored Plumb Double Bit

I know OutdoorEnvy just posted about his favorite axe, a Plumb double bit. About the same time as his post I found an old double bit in the basement of this barn. Coincidence? My son and I were playing in the basement of the barn amongst some old milk crates when I kicked something heavy... a...

    Feller Finally Hafted (pic heavy)

So back in April I scored a great "Made in the U.S.A" axe head at a local garage sale. http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35038&highlight=feller Promised I would post pics of it when I got it hafted. Now - I got a little overkill on the pics - but I'm still not quite the...

    Where to buy axe handles

Howdy, Looking for a couple of leads on where to buy axe handles. I know it has been mentioned before, just can't re-find it, I had been to a site a while ago that had illustrations of the eye as an aid to finding a handle. Also looked for Hickory Handle store on ebay and got nowhere. I...

How to know a good / straight axe handle?

OK - So I've been to just about every ACE HW store in a 20mi radius of my home or office. I get the whole heartwood / sapwood thing. And, I can determine the verticality of the grain as well as anyone else with eyes. I can even plumb the handle against a shelf to tell if it's true or not...

    Axe Rehandle

About 6 months ago, my grandfather gave me a really old hatched head and handle, so i put the them together and fitted a wedge, it worked ok for a while, but recently every time i chopped with it, the head would come really loose, so it was time for a new handle. Never done this before, but here...
