It was a nice day out but I was feeling a little under the weather so I decided to make a couple of leather sheaths for 2 cheap knives just as practice.

Note: I am not a professional leatherworker! While I have come quite a way these are not even close to some of the work done by other members.

figured I would show you guys where I am at. If you pro's out there want to chime in with advice please do so freely! : )

Looks good! The only thing I would add is a welt in between the leather so you dont cut all of your stitching.

One thing to consider when getting supplies is to hunt yard sales and thrift stores for various kinds of leather. The leather off of old tall boots can be used as can leather from purses that have seen their day. And the scars and marks gathered over time can ad to the look if the right combo of dying is done. Especially for a sheath that will see a lot of bush and get work worn rather quickly. People do it with PVC, why not recycled leather?

excellent advice! thank you.

Love the color on that first one. Nice job.

So, how did you get that color?

They are the same color but that darn blanket ruined the 2nd set of pics. (Guess that's why I'm not a photographer)

It is Java brown leather dye from tandy.

I badly want to try that for my cheap-o gerber profile. I just need to by the stuff to do it.

I haven't invested much at all. It is cheaper than you think to get started. Most of what I have is hand-me-downs from a saddle shop leatherworker friend. I have maybe $20 invested total.

Skab inspired me to get started when I saw that he made a punch with an old fork!
