I usually carry about 300 rds. of .22s with me in the backpack but can't seem to find a good container that would hold them without the top popping off while hiking. What do you use?

Bullion cube jar. Same diameter as a small pb jar but half as tall.

I like to use a nylon pouch I have whenever I carry more rounds than fit in the magazines I carry. The nylon keeps the .22's from bouncing around and making tons of noise, and because the pouch isn't rigid it can fit in your pocket or pack the way a peanut butter jar can't.
300 rounds is a lot. What for?

Thanks for the suggestions. We make our own peanut butter and I don't use bullion cubes so I'm a bit clueless on this one--are the containers glass or plastic? The bullion cube jars looks like it would fit the bill if they are made of plastic.

I will also have to look into the Otterboxes, I know that they're well known for being waterproof. Seems like some of the rounds are getting a green patina from the humidity.

I also have the CCI cases, only wish that they were a little bit bigger, 100 rd. cases would be perfect.

CarbonEvergreens-- We have been eating only game meat for the past half-decade so perhaps that may have something to do with it. When we're out for longer for 4-5 days, 300 rds. just feels like a comfortable amount to me.

i have a couple 100 round CCI plastic sliding lid cases. Like someone else said. I too refill the CCI case with federal bulk.

In a handy, dandy belt pouch. Right now it has 30-30 but it holds about 250 .22 bullets.

Crown Royal drawstring bag. A friend of mine gets them from a guy at his workplace. They sure are nice for a lot of stuff.

I still have some 35mm film canisters I use for 20 or 30 rounds at a time. You can stuff some cotton balls in to keep them from rattling in you pack. Then you have some extra fire tinder too.

Use a mix of carry methods. The old pipe tobacco pouch is best for bulk, carries 200-250 rounds depending on size. The 100 count CCI containers are nice, but crack easily.

I often use a 30 round flat MTM carrier pack that fits a hip pocket, and another 30 round leather belt unit that is pretty compact, and quiet.

Those, plus the tobacco pouch in my pack are enough combined ammo capacity to last me for a long time, especially with a bolt action rifle. ;)

CCI cases do come in hundreds. holler if you can't find 'em... i have a few extras. i actually didn't know they came in 50s. our 100s are only $6. anyway, the only thing i don't like about them is that they rattle. very convenient though, the way the cover slides back to expose 5 or 10 at a time.

forestry suppliers sells a leather pouch for a suunto compass, that seems like it would work, like arrowolf's pouch, only smaller.

peanut butter jars are almost all plastic now. the bouillon ones are still sometimes glass, sometimes plastic, depending on the brand.

i like the leather drawstring bag idea best myself.

I would go for the bullion jar if you're wanting to carry that many rounds....and yes...they are plastic. The one in the photo is clear..the one I have here is opaque (white) and has a plastic screw on lid. You could put you rounds in there and then a piece of foam on top of them to keep them from rattling around.

I'll shoot through at least 200 rounds each time I go out for a little fun.

I carry my ammo and Beretta Bobcat in a little canvas belt pouch. Little rattle and works fine for me.

My preference for carrying loose .22 cartridges is plastic screw top containers.
I have also used tins, bags, boxes, and small, covered buckets. I prefer the extra closing security that the screw top offers, in addition to the water resistance of the plastic.

Cosmetic product packaging tends to be about the right size, and can be found inexpensively.

For a smaller supply of extra ammo I have been really happy using a plastic squeeze-open coin purse - yes, those - as they seal well, sit flat in the pocket, and hold 16-20 rounds depending on how you pack them.

Antig, if your living arrangement doesn't allow access to these items. PM me and I'll send something your way.

I try not to carry anything plastic into nature and I don't like carrying anything breakable because sure enough it will break. I also like to carry everything quietly and I don't leave brass in the field. My plinking .22s are revolvers.

My method is to carry spare .22 ammo in a soft cloth or leather pouch in my pocket or possibles bag. I really like the idea of using an old leather tobacco pouch.

here's what I found for loose ammo like .22's. They ell these containers everywhere, different sizes and colors too.
