Does anybody know how (or if) you can attach an Alice pack to an 'H' style load bearing harness setup. I have an 'H' harness with battle belt and GI pistol belt. The 'battle belt helps with lower back support and provides plenty of molle attachment points. I'll add a pic of what i have as soon as Joe Kidd is over.

EDit: Kidd is over, here's what i got so far!

No, ALICE packs were never made to hook directly to LBE's of any type. Yes, you could rig something up, but what's the point? Just use he straps on the pack like it was designed to do.

+1. the USGI stuff is designed to be separate. i think it's better than the alternative you're suggesting.

i have a german/bundeswehr pack from the 80s that i love, but the suspension's a little weird due to its ability to have the pistol belt attached along the lower edge, as you're asking about for the US Alice setup. the german y-straps were built into the pack straps, so i have a d-ring between my shoulder blades, and hooks on the lower portion of the pack straps for the belt to clip into.

see the pics below. the first is a german pack on a frame, which i don't have, but note how the shoulder straps are attached up top. it's like an alice on a frame, and would be my prefered method.

the next picture is a set of german y-straps. not a lot different than alice LBE, but i wanted you to see how they're worn by themselves.

the last picture is my pack, which is a varient that blended the two. note the d ring in the middle.... i have cut off that middle strap, but you can see i'm stuck with the d ring. it doesn't effect how the pack rides, but it does get twisted up sometimes. i do not like it.

just carry your alice on your back, and let the LBE straps out long enough that the web belt rides just below your waist. they're easy enough to let up/down as needed.

Thanks Seeker.

Let me see if i am following you. Wear the alice as intended and wear the belt/harness separately. But i could wear the belt while wearing the alice as long as the harness is not attached.

My main concern was wearing the belt for lower back support while wearing a pack. I just did not know if they could be combined for ease of transport. Sounds like i will have to keep the detached. That was probably not well explained in the first post.

BTW, i do not have an alice pack yet.

if you're worried about lower back support, the alice frame HAS a hip belt. i wouldn't wear a pistol belt for support.

put the LBE on first. that's your canteens, butt pack, and ammo, and you can't do without it. let the straps most of the way down, like a punk saggin' his pants... the pistol belt will hit you right at butt level, or a even a little lower. if it bothers you to leave the buckle undone, get a pistol belt extender that clips into it, or adjust it bigger. here's a picture, but if the end of your pistol belt doesn't look like this, find one that does. they make a couple different kinds. http://www.vtarmynavy.com/pistol-belt-extenders.htm

now put your alice pack on on top of the LBE. the pack frame will hit you at belt level, the shoulder straps will get tangled up with anything you have on the LBE straps (commonly a first aid kit and flashlight). but it works. the pistol belt is functionally below the alice pack, and anything hanging off it is out of the way.

other guys leave the LBE alone, and just drape it over the Alice pack with the pistol belt snapped around the middle... untidy, but functional. but that's not what you asked at first... anyway, hope that helps.
