The old children's poem about "4 and 20 Blackbirds" and "Old King Cole" referred to crows used as food. They are edible, and good to eat, but strong flavored, not anything like chicken. They have considerable meat, breasts and legs, compared to smaller birds like quail or grouse. Some hesitate to eat them because they eat carrion, but god has prepared them, like buzzards, with powerful digestive systems that kill bacteria and viruses even so they don't get sick from what they eat, and also don't pass it on to whatever eats them.
As for wasting them, don't worry. If you don't eat them coyotes, foxes, skunks or various other critters will gladly clean them up.
