Anyone still use a barlow?

Ya brought back a memory for me.My first knife at 8 years old. For my Birthday I got a Barlow knife.:)
Unfortunately, some years later... it got "lost" by misappropriation from loanng it out.
:(
I do remember that the first thing I made with it was a "willow whistle".
Thnx for bringing it up!
:D

I have not had a Barlow in years. I keep looking at them though. I have kind of become a stockman or trapper user.

I have a cheap Imperial Barlow I use for work. Love the design, but won't hold an edge. It does get some abuse tho.

My dad carries an original Barlow he found in a box of tools at an auction a few years ago. It's pitted and has a heavy patina, but takes an edge you can shave with.

I have an old Camco Barlow I picked up last year. It was still new and I carry it everytime I go out. I always wanted to get my dads after he passed away but I can't find out who did get it.

Had to look it up. Dad just called his an electrician's knife. I think he still has it deep in the depths of one tool bow or other. Not sure though as he gave away a lot of his tolls when he retired, but I think it was Grandpop's so it's likely still around.

My dad spent years working for a maintenance department at a public school district and also carried an Electrician's Barlow every day. One day he had his "buddy" check the power source for him prior to cutting a line. When he cut it the arc ate a divot in his knife blade but fortunately didn't "bite" him. He carried that same knife for the rest of his life as a reminder NOT to trust someone else with his safety checks any more.;) It had a single bolster, a clip blade, a screwdriver blade, and a bail on the end opposite the bolster. The scales were a "sawn pattern" bone. My youngest brother now owns the knife.:)

My grandfather carried a Barlow as long as I knew him. The small blade was often used to scrape out a pipe.

I have a Boker Tree Brand Barlow I will give to my daughter someday when I tell her about him.

Just seeing a Barlow brings back lots of good childhood memories.

I got this one last year or so... I really like it. The fit and finish are pretty unremarkable, but the blade is exceptional.

I've had mine for years and all I know it has gutted a ton of troudt and a couple deer. It says "Imperial, Providence, R.I.", is this a good one? Don't know a lot about knife history.

Still have one I got in grade school, but seldom use it now. Good little knie though.

I have one that I have had for years. Have it out up & don't use it on a regular basis.

I have a very nice big Barlow, 2 blades, its almost as big as a buck 110 folded. Dandy knife. Sounds like a safe when you close it. :] I'll try to post some pictures of it.

I have a Camco that I carry and a few put back for later. I used to sell them here when I had a vendor forum.

My gramps had tons of Barlows laying around, some with the blades quite worn from use. My first pocket knife was a Barlow. Sure wish I had kept them around after all these years. Might just have to grab a new one!

Does Rough Rider make a Barlow?

I dont see to many of them today. I know Buck makes one, but they are not too common... same with Case.

I honestly thought I would never see so many responces,I have a cheap SS barlow it keeps a ok edge,it whittles quite well though.

To me, thats the value of the pattern. Its "big butt" fits so comfortably in your hand. It makes the knife fill your hand nicely for long work like whittling.

Now you have me hunting for a new Barlow style LOL.

:)

ya know I've owned countless pocket knives and I gotta admit Barlow style has never really done it for me for some reason. One of my chepo Bokers I recently got reminds of a Barlow(similar in handle shape) cept it's a lock back, it's seeing a lot of whittle time, and edc use.
