I'd realy like to change the leather on my pilots knife as its looking quite tired, has anyone done this?

talking about the stacked leather washers? I too would like to see some one do it before I attempt it on upon one of my knives, temp fix for me was to cord wrap my handle.

I've re-did a couple of the stacked leather handles. If they have a screw on pommel or pommel nut they are not a problem to get apart and put back together. Pre-cut leather spacers are available from the supply houses.
The Camillus pilots knife I have has a peened on pommel. If yours is the same way you would have to grind the peened over portion off and shorten the handle some to have enough to peen it again.

knife I have is a bit different I need to take a pic I don't think I can take the end off without drilling it

actually had it sitting close by.....kinda hard to focus with my crap camera but I'm assuming the round 'rivet' or whatever it is could be drilled out, which I guess is acting like a wedge in the tang?

I've seen one similar to that pressed apart by a local knife maker. He made a jig and applied the force to the guard. His actually came apart fairly easy.
