BCUSA Boys Axe Database/input suggestions participation requested

Great idea brother. Those are definatly the goto axes round here. Maybe a cold steel trailboss. We've got one here Ill send your way.

Like the idea Brother Creek :dblthumb: Now I have question I have 24" axe ( boys axe) Should You add a hole in the handle and at the end paint red or yellow? Thanks for Your Time Brother.

How about Rockwell testing the poll? Seems like that info might be more useful to a potential buyer than trying the eye area.

Never even thought about a trailboss, J. It will actually be at the small end of the scale but if you'd like to send it, I'll guarantee its return. I would appreciate more units especially to be able to rc test the heads. I think being able to collect the hardness of a bunch of different ones will be a good info source.

I put a hole in all of mine to be able to tie them down. Painting is ones own choice, Being able to see it is not a bad thing. I just don't paint mine. :)

Ill throw it in your box when it gets here and send it to ya. Keep it however long ya want, it never gets used. No rush at all bro. I think it would be a good addition.

Being as I'm financing this venture, I figured to only rc the the edge. My friend wildernut also suggested testing the pole. As I consider suggestions and consult my machinist, I'm begining to think 3 reading my be in order. I think it would be nice to see what you start with and what you end up with...if that makes sense.

Vintage & Hudson Bay styles?

Creek, This is a great project. Just want to thank you for your offer to spearhead it.

Do you have any interest in vintage axes for your data base?

Also, I have a few Hudson Bay axes that would fit the size parameters of the Boy's axe...would consider adding these to your review or just keep the data base to Wisconsin, Michigan, Yankee and Dayton style heads?

I would be interested in helping you out.

Regards, Tom

Cool project. What about some additional measurements of the heads that give more details about the shape, like width at the eye, width 1" back from edge, or angle of grind, etc.?

I have a few Swedish surplus Hults axes which I'd be happy to send, but being surplus, they are a bit variable in spec, so I'll let you make the call as to whether they would be of use.

Very cool idea. This will take care of a lot of questions people have. Thanks for your efforts on this Creek.

If you have a factory mounted example that can be bought today, I'd be happy to add it. I'm trying real hard to stay in the 26 inch range and having it be available for retail purchase

I'll add this one too if its as you purchased it. I'm putting in a vintage head that I rehandled as a crash test dummy. I want to use "original" models off the shelf..as best I can. There are often surplus axes available so I see no reason not to include one.

Great idea. It's not my go to axe but they are really nice for sure.

Curious about the 26" length. I have a 2 1/4 lb Sandvik on a 28" handle (rehandled myself) but only because 28" is O.P. Link's Boy's axe handle (or at least one of them).

Is the 26" a personal preference or for consistency / comparison sake? Is there a specific head weight that qualifies? Head pattern?

Very cool stuff creek.

Looks like you are gonna have a great database. I'll be happy to follow this along.

My bad. He is sending a bahco, not a barco. So no barco at this time. I have 3 coming from members who are loaning them to the project. I think that will make for 11 to be evaluate. I can't purchase anymore myself. So I'll update all units to be used when I get them and unless others are sent out of kindness, that will be all.
