Well I got a secret santa gift, and it was a Gerber Bear Grylls "Ultimate" Knife. I'm not going to bash the knife because it's $40.00, and I know that's almost BK-2 territory... the diamond plate, firesteel, wide pummel are a decent combo for that price. I wasn't really in need of another knife. I have a custom AdventureSworn, Bk-2, and I like my carving axe. I also dislike serrated knives. But I'd feel guilty trading a gift, so I was wondering if anyone has out there put new scales on this knife? Not only do I hate the colors, it's also my high school's colors.. It's horrendous. Also, I apologize if there are users out there that love these... it's just not me.

I saw one photo online of the knife blank and it has a narrow tang.. no biggie but I bet the LMFII has a huge piece of steel under the scales. Speaking of alloy here... has anyone figured out yet what exactly the steel is? I just hear generic terms thrown out there.

I saw the other thread here with the pass-around... can't wait to see that. Maybe I'll contribute with my own knife if that's allowed.

Adahy, I don't know anyone that has one that likes the color or the BG's emblasoned on the handle. but the knife works well in spite of it's looks,
before you toss it in a drawer or a closet give it some honest use, you may find that it grows on you.
It ain't my best knife, but then again, It's great to have when you don't want to subject your "good" knives to bad wether, salt air, or digging out cat tail roots.

I totally agree. I would feel horrible letting a decent tool sleep in the chest. It will probably end up as my camp knife or a blade for someone that tags along.
