Anyone use bug nets with their tarp? What type/brand? Down here in south florida there are critters year round. Not to mention I saw a cotton mouth the other day the size of me.

Bug nets don't seem to slow snakes down much at night, if they are cold and you are warm. One reason I prefer sleeping in a hammock. ;)

But, yeah, it helps a lot with bugs, especially in warmer weather.

when i lived in TN, i used a tarp/bugnet combo, but it became a moot point when i started using a hammock with an integrated bug net.

you won't catch me out without my hammock now... too many snakes and critters on the ground and in the trees...

i also use permethrin as an additional layer of protection. anything crawling on my stuff dies! (well, 'cept jake, and i gots snakeshot fer him!)

I use it all the time and my tent without the fly is more than 90% mesh....You can pic up an old mil surplus bug net for pretty cheap...or you can pic up the materials at a fabric store and make your own

I have to agree with Gray One and Seeker on the Hammock/Bug Net Combo.
While Snakes are not a problem here in Korea, they have some bugs that must have come from outer space. Puts chills right up the ol spine.
