Went out to Cuivre River state park to check out the "backwoods" camp sites. Honestly I can't imagine staying at the "regular' campgrounds with the RV crowd. But it was a good trip. Weather was a bit cold which was good, gave me a chance to test out my clothing system. I still need to work on it a bit but I got some REI gift cards for Christmas so i need to research what I need to get. I didn't freeze though, just breath-ability with the stuff that I have.

One thing I noticed was some of the trail connections were poorly marked. This may be due to some trail renovations. I saw some new trail work and I think the map was not up to date for sure. So it is important to keep an eye on the trail vs the map. I carry a GPS as well as topo maps printed out from mytopo.com. Can never have enough information just in case you got lost.

I got to mess around with making fire and keeping it going. Also my first boil in my Guyot bottle, which took a lot longer than I thought. Plan to do some boil tests on my nimblewill stove and record some boil times with different fuels. I will post up some results. Anyway it was a good time and thanks for looking. Here are the vids.

yeah it was a pretty nice place. Seems all the parks are an hour away. But any day out in the woods is a good time.
 
I never would have thought about the trees and hammocks until I started hanging out here. On both camping trips I have done with BCUSA members they brought hammocks. Oddly enough they didn't use them and chose tarp setups. But there were a few trees at these campsites that stuck out as good hammock trees. Who knows, might have to get a Grand Trunk and catch the hanging affliction lol
