I got gifted one... had plans on using it this weekend still may, but I kinda doubt it for fear of it sustaining damage per it's stock build.....reasonably priced and all now I see why.

Not to knock it for a nylon tarp 10x10 it is ok, but it's tab set up is absolute crap.

Anyone modded one? I know I will be, I'll try and document the process.

oops meant to post a link:

Great tarp, I've had one for a few years. I'd say the tabs are more useful than a problem. It's not like you HAVE to use the tabs and they're not in the way. The tarp folds down smaller and is lighter than an equivalent walmart blue tarp buit is heavier than many other tarp options out there.

I bought one about 6 years ago and used it lots.... It has held up without a problem!
I've had no issues with the tie tabs although I like grommets best. It has been through a couple of winds that I thought I would wake up in the morning and find it torn to pieces but it came through without a hitch.

just seems kinda excessive but haven't not used it, I can't say much...but they really seem kinda poorly sewn, love that it packs so small though.

Use silicone seam sealer (or silicone windshield sealant) on both sides of the stitching and it will hold. The tabs are way stronger than grommets if you do that.

put the thing up in the yard today...I mighta been a tad harsh on it just looking at it out of the package in the house, definately has tabs galore, thing is it really needs 2 more per the way I like things, so I know I'll be altering it. I think for it's price point it will do.

Some point or another I'll quit be lazy and get my sewing machine out again.

Anywho lil pic action, I wish it had a tab in the middle on that seam, if that makes sense.

well I was wearing some ripstop pants, forget by who which had for ages...was it as heavy as them? Nope, really the only thing I have to compare it to it my North Face tent which I plan to repair tomorrow, maybe I can compare the fly to it some how....seems good....I'm not gonna go crazy and say it's fantastic or anything, but it was the most reasonable no grommet nylon tarp I could find cost wise.

Does anyone know how the "ultralight" ones compare to the regular ones? Are the regular ones small and compact enough to pack?

I have the 10x10 and it's great imho. Rain-tested on an outing last year and it's definitely water-proof. I tied the tabs together to form loops, that's my only complaint.

Are you speaking of the ones on Campmors site?

Yes. What I'm asking is, are the regular, non-ultra light tarps that they sell, compact enough to pack; or are they too bulky?

I may buy one of these tarps, I'm just trying to figure out if the ultralight ones are worth the extra cash, or if the regular ones are fine.

I don't have too much of a problem with weight, for me volume is a more important matter.

I did a fair amount of 'research' before I went with this tarp thing.... and I'm still on the fence...but the idea of grommets in nylon...really would lend itself to failure.

I went with this tarp as it was essentially the cheapest way to get one without making it myself(I'm lazy atm and material locally is next to impossible to find, another excuse not to sew).

After having pitched it and left it up a day now...yeah it sagged and shifted...I figure once I make proper guy lines with shock cord, should change that.

I'd spend the extra, course mine was a gift, I had a hard time paying the prices for nylon tarp peronally.

far as pack size...well that's subjective, I've toted a 10x10 poly....thing is 4 times the size and far more weight....the other campmor ones I have no experience with but I read reviews of failed grommets.

I have one of these and love it. All the ties make for a large amount of options, and it has held up in some fairly strong winds with no trouble. Rolled up, it is about the height of a nalgene, and about 1 inch less in diameter. Fits great in a bottle holder and is heavier and thicker than the sil-nylon tarps, which I count in it's favor. All in all, for a less than $50 tarp, I think it is a heck of a purchase, and will be a welcome addition to most gear collections.
