I know the Sierra is a classic style camp mug, but.. Man they can be unwieldy! Enamelware has it's place, but the last one I tried (made in China of course) left a metallic taste in my mouth.

So what do you consider the "classic" camping mug?

I'm asking because, lately, my gear is taking on a mostly classic look and my fancy newfangled mugs look out of place.

.

I grew up with my family using enamelware when we went camping-
I'm SURE this is why I choose to use this as my everyday coffee cup at home:

but...for me personally...when I'm in the woods - it's been the same canteen cup since I went in - in '85:

Plain old tin cup is what I think of.

I'd rather do the metal in case I want to boil some water on my Brasslite or Emberlit without bringing out my big cooking pot. So, while I like kuplikas and would wanna carve one if I ever found a good burl, it's not what I have my eye on.

Skab! Where did you find that?!

No one else has a sort of metal aftertaste with enamelware?

favorite camp cup

Here's one I've had for a long time.

It's a copper boiler with a nesting cup made by Tedd Cash. It's seen a lot of use, it's handy for tea in the boiler, a little at a time in the cup. They are copper with tin lining, no funky taste.
Donk.

the rust in my everyday coffee cup is my Iron supplement, bro! :D

seriously...I don't notice it. I should just take my coffee thru an IV - the cup is just a brief stopping point for my caffine! :27:

I think those GSI cups are the new sierra cup. Years down the line I think they will be looked at with the same affection. Mines been a trusted compadre for many years now.

Personally, I hate tin cups! We used them at rendezvous for their 'authenticity', but I like my coffee HOT and black and always had to build up a thick lip callous to prevent second degree burns!

I cast my vote for enamelware...especially when it's got a few chips and scars.

Very nice Spork.....What kind of folder is that??

And good luck trying to hold it anywhere but the handle if the contents are hot. :17:

Hard to beat the enamelware, the blue is classic. I've used blue enamelware on camping trips since I can remember.
If you're having metallic tastes from enamelware made in Chine, try looking at your local Ace hardware store, or perhaps some other sporting goods stores, for the "Cinsa" brand enamelware that is made in Mexico. I use it and have had not problems at all.

I'll take a look for those enameled cups again.. Looks like Stansport is of the Cinsa variety and I can get one of those readily.

Thanks all - great suggestions. :)

Here is my Tin lined Copper mug with a cover and a clay cup that fits inside the Copper Mug. I use it to drink and cook. The clay mug is nice but I have broke a few of them.

I use enamelware. My cup has dings in it as it should. I just tie it to a strap and go. Sometimes I wrap it with a handkerchief to protect it a little or to quite it down if it makes noise.

kuksa or enamalware are what i consider classic, but i agree with J... those GSI stainless steel cups with the folding handles that fit on the end of a nalgene qt bottle are going to be THE cup someday.

USGI canteen cup is pretty much a classic too.
