My sister has been emailing me that she, hint, hint, really likes my knives with, hint, hint, desert ironwood scales and, hint, hint, leather sheaths. Okay, I get it. I put these together for her and my brother-in-law. I gave the knives the usual treatment, strip the coating, vinegar/mustard patina, and desert ironwood scales. Leather sheaths seal the deal.

There's a bobble or two on the sheaths, but they're serviceable. Good enough at least that I'm hoping to get a pie :4: out of this the next I visit.

Thanks for looking.

Cool they look nice! I think the leather looks great as well. Is it difficult to apply that patina?

No, not at all. I just remove the black coating and soak the knife in vinegar, checking it every 15 or twenty minutes, until it's about the color I want. Then, when I'm all done putting the scales on the knife, I will darken it a bit more with yellow mustard.

Those look very good. You've inspired me to do something with mine. With that sheath design, do you have any trouble with the blade cutting into the retaining strap upon insertion and withdrawal?

No, not that I've noticed. I've made a couple very similar to this before and I don't think they have any problems.

Yeah,:22:
I was going to point out those bobbles in the sheaths.

Those look really awesome. Love the mods, especially the rich grain. Reminds me of older better times, before plastic.:4:

Get ready for an outpouring. Pie is prolly a given

Really nice work. I'd love to see a pic of the back side of the sheaths if you get a chance. Just curious how you built in the belt loop with that design.

I've already mailed them, but I do have this view. Hope it helps.

I sewed one, the other has snaps.

I think that I am a brother-in-law too!

I'll be waiting by the mailbox for mine! Thanks!

Wow....they look great! Good job!

:35: They turned out really nice.

I think you should get a couple of pies out of this when you visit. In the mean time a couple jars of jam would be nice.

I like how you think. Jam would be very nice.

good job on those - love my Eskabar, but it's not as pretty as those!
