Hi guys! I've really wanted a crooked knife for a while now, but being the poor college kid I am, I cant afford to buy one. So I decided to forge one out of some extra knife steel I have lying around.

Now on to my dilemma, I don't have a knife to base mine off of and I've never owned one.

So what should I shoot for?
How long should the blade be?
How big of a radius should the bend in the blade be?
Should the bevel(s) be on the outside or the inside?

Thanks in advance guys.

You could probably do a google search for some pics. Just be aware that what you are referring to as a crooked knife is something else entirely. A crooked knife is a straight bladed knife with a backwards handle. It is used in similar fashion to a draw knife. What your describing is what some call a bowl or spoon carving knife. I believe there is an actual name for it, just can't think of what it is at the moment.

As for your questions:
The blade does not have to be very long. That and the radius should depend somewhat on what you are doing. For example, you can get away with a bigger curve in a bowl that a spoon.
The bevel should be inside if I remember correctly. Hope this helps a bit.
