I searched and have not found a similar thread. If you did something today, that was bushcraft related, but is not worthy of its own thread; post it here.
Not all projects are "self made gear" or any other specific forum category...So I figured general discussion was the best arena.

With that said....what did you do today?

I got a monster belt grinder from my Dad, I cleaned it, and got it set up in the garage.

Another member had this old double that needed some "love" so I pounded out the old haft, and started hand sanding it.

It is looking much better now, but the only ID marks I can find are "BEN" or maybe it is "REN".

LOL, Josh, we did the same thing! Set up a belt sander and Max has been busy putting some knives back into shape. We routinely pick up "junk" knives from flea markets and thrift shops. Max also worked on a sheath he's making for a machete we bought at an auction.

This evening we took a short walk in the woods around our place checking out the mushroom plugs we used to innoculate tree stumps (while we cut last years firewood). Looks like some of them took and hopefully we'll have a nice flush this fall. We're pretty jazzed about that.

I decided to find out how tough osage really was.....Its very TOUGH!

I made a one stick fire, and started making a spoon while watching the fire...

It is harder than most to carve the bowl on.

But it turned out pretty well.

I used my ESEE 4 and a Mora crook knife. (both need sharpened now)

Well, no pics but I built a twig fire ( with 3 times prep), feather sticks, made tea on said fire, started it with bow drill, tested several found rocks for flint and steel, turned bits of oak and dogwood into shavings with a Turley Cooper's Creek and a Adventure Sworn Classic Woodlore, sharpened both knives with a strop, and made char cloth.

It was a good day.

I am re-finishing the stock on an Remington Model 514 that my Grandpa, Dad and my Uncle used in the 60's and 70's. The butt of the stock had been cut down at sometime and there was a split which didn't really affect the usefulness of the rifle but I decided to re-finish it so it would last another 40+ years.

The bolts in these were known to break or fall out and this one has been brazed together at one time so I am considering having it TIG'd or I may just clean up the weld a bit. It also needed a new extractor so I spent sometime on Numerich looking for replacements.

Will try and get a photo or two as it progresses.

That spoon and "spork" look nice man. As does the polished axe head. :dblthumb:
Are ya going to post the axes' finished process; handle and all?

Thanks, and yes...I will post as I go. I might do a heavy 19 inch straight handle on this one....Kind of like a jumbo "cruiser" style double bit. I dont need a long haft on my axes, because I have to sit to use them anyways.

My son and I rode our bikes down to the park outside of town, made a fire, hung in the hammock, ate some Vienna sausages, practice fire prep and using a firesteel, goofed off and had fun in the woods. Oh, I also showed him how to light punkwood to keep skeeters away.

no pics but am making video clips (will post if it all works out)-for the 3rd day in a row i have worked my day job and then my night job and came home to play with clay at 9pm.if you saw my last video i brought home a bunch of clay from the fossil grounds and dried it and pulverized it and added some sand and made a bunch of things that look like a 4yr old made them.tonight i am done and done in good time as i am dead tired but wanted to finish so they can dry up before this week-end so i can try to fire them oldschool in a campfire -we'll see :)

I touched up the edge on my Svord Peasant.
You know, there is something peaceful about sharpening a knife.

i find myself hiding in my workshop sharpening knives quite often lately -for me it's a nice wind down time and my knives have never been all so sharp at once -i need to get out (big trip in 9 days for 8 days) :)

my daughter likes to jump up and down on her bed
so i had to whittle a piece of wood and fashion it to the rail of her bed with some glue (it belonged to her great great grandmaw)
i don't believe they make those parts anymore
