Just finished rehabbing a True Temper FSS (Forest Service Supply) double bit ax I found on the gound behind our shop at work the other day. It turned out so nice that I thought it should have a sheath.

Turned out nice. Like the leather work. I have not tried to make a sheath for a double bit axe yet. Does the strap keep the covers in place well? I was leaning towards a pocket type sheath with a flap over the top and some brass rings to tie the axe down. Nice rehab on the axe as well.

The strap does OK. Not perfect but it is not my pack ax so, back of jeep and in the garage it will be fine.

This is a circa 1960 True Temper (Kelly) FSS (Forest Service Supply) ax. I found it behind our ranch shop at work. Talked to the owner and he said I could keep it. After several days of love and attention, I was ready to hang a new handle. I sharpened this ax to true shaving standards. I then felled a 6 inch mesquite tree in 6 Blows and from 1 side. I knew this was a real keeper.

I feel fortunate to have found such a quality ax. It just seems harder and harder to find true quality in axes anymore. I would put this ax up against a GB of similar size any day.

I just received my GB Scandinavian forest ax today too! It's like an ax orgy around here! Lol
