Just like the title says, the task for this elective is to improvise a fishing hook in the field.
You can use whatever you like, as with all improvisation just use your imagination and be creative.
This video goes over a couple if you want some ideas or suggestions.

This video shows honey locust thorns as hooks in two configurations. One as a hook and one as a gorge. Fast forward to about the 1:30 mark.

You can use metal, wood, bone etc. Just be sure you're not over estimating the size of fish you'll be trying to catch. In other words make your hooks the appropriate size.
Most of all, have fun.

Don't over look paper clips {keep 2 in my wallet} or if you by chance have some papers with staples they make dandy small fish hooks, used them as a kid with some thread and a gob of a snail or a wrapper from some chewing gum or you can us Alum.foil like a jig

Cool Lesson Iz.

Has anyone successfully caught anything on those wood hooks? I tried a couple times and had no luck...

I've caught a few catfish on gorges made from a deer leg bone. Set em as limb lines over night with chicken livers.

Very cool I've actually caught three fish using a safety pin awesome lesson

If you're going to use gorge hooks, make as many as you expect to catch fish because you're not getting the hook back until you clean the fish.
Yes, they work. I've used them for years. Again, though, don't make them big, a one inch will snag a sizable fish.
I like using locust thorns, they are tough and sharp.
