Esee RC4 In Field Showcase

you are spot on, for sure. The 4 is usually regarded as the best overall size if you had to just have one, at least by most folks.

I spent a long time as a rat packer - they are great blades and the warranty is just beyond anything else out there. you don't have to worry about batoning it, though...don't hold back! heck talk to some of the guys on their private forum - these knives are made to be beat on and can take more than you'd ever believe. lol.

congrats on your 4!

I have a 4, 3, Izula and Izula II. The ESEE knives really are exceptional. I would (and have not) had any issues with batoning at all. I baton with my 3 (thinner stock) with NO issues.

The thick steel on the 4 and the grind (hollow? I though it was a full flat?) make a great batoning tool. Im with you, I would never be batoning wood much thicker than what you displayed. And mostly pine as well (here in Ga).

Great tools.

Still have my RC4 and a first run RC5.

The 4 is a well deisgned blade. I just found that with both it and my Ratmandu that I don't care for the choils in the designs at all. The 4 really cuts exceptionaly once I convexed the edge.

It may be a flat grind I think I was having a senior moment out there that day.

Pretty sure it does. :) No worries, either way they are awesome. I was just sitting by my stove and grabbed mine.... shaved a goofy looking patch of hair off my leg LOL.

hmm the laguna's great place I spent many a year hanging there ,,
great trails and hell of a view from garnet peak.

I like the Esee 4 as a go to knife, I never had a problem batoning
with it, I use one as my primary carry in the woods.

I was up off Kitchen Creek road. I pulled over and did a walk about. I love that area.

Thanks for posting the video, it's nice to see knives I'm considering in hand before actually purchasing them. I agree with one the other posters about convexing the edge...I convexed my Izula, and it's a first-rate cutter now. I wear it around my neck daily. Their heat-treat of 1095 is spot on!
