"Fatwood", as in "pitch wood" or "lighter knot", etc.??
If so, I can't believe how much there is here in Florida... I've got about 3 2ft stumps of it all cut up... Next to birch bark, it's my favorite tinder... But back home (PNW), it is pretty rare and a great find when you can find it.. Here, it lies all over the place.

Ive seen some fatwood at stores and tried some and found out that it does not work as good.

Yeah its all over....here in miami all we have are darn pines and palms....its the softwood capital of the U.S.
