I am just wondering something.
The last time I was out in a pine forest the biggest lot of fat wood I could find was barely 5 inches long and little more than half inch across.

Yet

What I have seen of other peoples collecting is that it's far bigger usually.

Was that just the forest I was in or is this the standard size and all you guys have really good luck?

The big root I brought home the other day at about 40" probably had about 12-14" of choice resin'd wood in it and maybe 3-4" in diam, I'm not one who has studied fat wood all that much. I grab some every few years as I need it.

Not sure where you're at. We can find some really big stumps down here. Central Fl.

I am heading out Saturday to get a few hundred pounds. I have been lucky and have located several very monstrous stumps! StNick showed me what to look for and now I find it all the darn time. Wish I could harvest it all but I am the only one in the area that looks for the stuff so I am lucky lol

Maybe the stuff in the UK for what ever reason never grows as big...Or maybe I need more practise looking for it.
Thanks for the replies
