The set, mullen stalk with a cottonwood hearth. I connected it to a piece of store bought dowel to try and save it. I only have one piece and it was down to about 18 inches.

I think I finally realized, just like the bow drill, smooth speed with gentle pressure is better than putting too much pressure down and burning through the board too quick. Now it is time to really start practicing.

Fantastic! Nice glow. I too have been practicing with Mullen stalk and getting short on it. Good idea about the dowel and what looks to be a piece of PVC pipe. I will have to try that. Thanks again for the video too.

Yea I saw that on another video from a member here. It is a 3/8 inch red oak dowel and a piece of 3/8 sharkbite pvc pipe from home depot. It has a bit of stretch like pex would. So it helps it grab the mullen tight, it didn't slip at all.

Good work! Are you making fire indoors on a carpeted floor? My better half would chew my ears off if I did that indoors on the carpet. :4:;)

To connect the Mullen stalk to a store bought dowel
So I could use smaller pieces instead of throwing them away
Mullen is hard to come by for me
