Ok fellas, I know there some out there using good ole fashioned fire irons, be it at home or on the old dusty trail.

I'm looking to get a set up for rendezvous and home use. So it doesn't need to be light weight, I would actually prefer it was heavy as all get out!

So show me what ya got and where ya got it from!

This is what I'm talking about, I'm leaning towards a set up like this. That can also be used as a tripod. But, I know there are fancier set ups.

Hell even if it's not yours, lets see some cool set ups.

Mine were gifts from Hushnel. They're under a truck load of firewood right now. LOL. I'll get a pic at the voo tomorrow or Sun. I used them all summer in NC. Love them irons.

Have you ever seen Donks? Great place to start because to my knowledge he makes them himself and everyone that has gotten one from him loves them..Hope it helped

i don't have any pictures, but i make fire irons out of conduit. one piece is 1/2", one piece is 3/4". cut off a couple feet, pinch one end in the vise, then hammer the pinched end shut, maybe touch it up with a file, and insert the small one into the large one. two sets of those are all you need. the ends will rest flat on any surface at any reasonable flat angle, even if it's a little tilted (like a rock or log). they're cheap enough to cache near your favorite spots (and if forgotten, will rust out over time, so while not exactly "green", there's little harm done.)

edit: was out today and christened a new set. here you go!

one pic shows a closeup of the pinched end, and how the 1/2" fits into the 3/4". the other pic shows how you can set those ends on an uneven surface, like a log, with different angles.

Here is a set Donk and I made years ago out of 7/8" hex stock. It can also be set up as a tripod. When you twist hex it looks really cool.

those are nice rigs fellas. I would like to make a set, any detailed info available? dimensions and whatnot.

Those great Donk. Keep them coming fellas.

I really like the double hooks for holding a dutch steady. This set was short (height) and long so it could hold 8 or 10 billies at the same time for Terry's class.

Josh and your dad put out some great stuff from your irons to the little camp grills. Donk, you sir are a true craftsman. Love seeing your stuff, hopefully I can get enough coin to order a camp grill from you guys :)

I'm digging this thread. My family and I have been talking about getting into Rendezvous ourselves. We've been looking for something the whole family can participate in. I have to admit we are a bit shocked at how much getting started is going to cost.

Donk, looks like some great work. What kinda coin are those irons fetching? I'd love to get a set for my backyard. I don't do rondies, but I do love to cook in dutch ovens for friends. You can PM me if you'd like.

Thanks.

Here's a a couple sets used over one fire. The square stock ones are TurkeyTracks' and the round pipe set is mine.

That's cool, portable fire box. Self contained.

Ditto, I need a set also.

i like my flip out grill ( like in the first few pics) better than the irons themselves. in fact i usually just took the grill and a squirrel cooker
