In this video I use the Firebox I got from Steve over at Firebox Industries with my version of the Kelly Kettle. The Angelfood pan is something I've been using ever since I first saw it back when I was in the Boy Scouts. We used it for melting snow at winter camp.

I bought the Angelfood cake pan at Goodwill for 75 cents.

I apologize for the ranting I did near the end. The last couple of days I've been getting emails that have been bugging me a bit plus I guess I should have eaten lunch before I made the video. Sorry.

You can find more info on the Firebox at the following link:

Thank you for watching my video,
Hiram

That's a swell idea to use the cake pan. We always called a bundt pan, but anything with the central "cone" should work. I can see its potential for snow processing. Now if only we got some real snow...

Yup- great info, I've been wanting a Kelly Kettle, and having a poor mans option is a good start. Gonna start looking for one.

Thanks

I picked up an angelfood cake pan a while back a Goodwill. Didn't work too well on my Trangia burner, but it should work well on a wider flame like your wood burner. Nice tip on using it as a snow melter. :)

Guess I'll haul it out again for a little more experimentation and a lid. I was really wanting a stack cooker with a smaller pot/mug over the central cone.

Interesting. I've had an ideal in the back of my head of taking two cake pans and creating a Trangia type windscreen setup. A lot of the Angelfood pans I've seen have removable centers...never thought of using a Bundt pan as an actual vessel.

Reminds me of a Mongolian Hot Pot - LINK

Good stuff, Hiram! Enjoyed the video.

I wouldn't worry too much about 'who' actually used these techniques and ideas in the beginning. At my age, I am forever seeing things on forums and YouTube with people claiming that the concept was theirs originally. Nothing but balderdash, blatherskite, baloney, and an ignorance of history. :) In camp, I first remember seeing my mother use the aluminum bundt cake pan or gelatin mold to boil, melt, and bake, over 50 years ago on the old Coleman stove or over coals. Most dedicated camp cooks learn to be very savvy and creative, using what they have at hand. These days, all we seem to do is reinvent the wheel with perhaps a little new technology thrown in.
