I switched out the batteries in my flashlight in my field bag (bob) today.
I took the old batteries and put them in the house for use somewhere less than critical.
Just seems like a good thing to do on New Years Day.

Never hurts to do the same with smoke alarms inside the house at some regular point.

We have daylight saving time here in Wisconsin, so spring and fall, so batteries in the smoke and CO detectors get changed out.

All flashlights get checked, winter kit goes in vehicles goes in in the fall, summer kit in spring.

This has been a habit for a long time, works well.

Our smoke detector battery went beeping a while back. We ended up changing it before Christmas. Always good to change them, i changed them in my flashlights too.
