Hey all!

I got my Asbell pullover awhile back and I love it!

The only things I didn't like about it when I got it, were that the neck opening was too small (fixed that very easily) and that I can't seem to keep the mackinaw cape on the shirt between taking the whole thing off and on.

Do you think it'd be possible to fix the cape on there somehow?

What'd be your way of doing it? Velcro? Buttons/toggles? Stitching?

Any input?

Thanks!

You could try sewing in magnets. Just throwing that out there.

I would try some heavy duty snaps set in webbing sewed onto the wool. I don't mean to steal an idea but that is how Kevin does it for his Wool clothing, when he posted up a tutorial of it. Sets the snaps in webbing so they don't pull out of the wool.

That or just sew on some velcro, not the cheap crap but the heavy duty velcro that the military or maxpedition uses, that stuff is the strongest velcro I have ever seen.

True, it is kind of a pain to put the mackinaw layer on an take it off all the time, but you likely will not need it all the time. I'd leave it as a separate layer because that is what it is designed to be. Only wear it when you need it, go without it the rest of the time to keep from perspiring too much.

trek i have just the wool pull over, its okay,my only complaint is the hood is way too big, alot of material was wasted,i will have to do some mods on it.i would go with velcro on it with just a couple of stitches.

I just got mine for Christmas and have only worn it once, but I had the same two issues. I like that the mackinaw is separate (that's why I wanted it!), so if I did add anything I'd stick with velcro, or buttons if you want it to be more "traditional".

What'd you do to enlarge the neck opening? I can get mine on but it's tighter than I'd like going over my head for sure.

A button on each shoulder and one at the nape of the neck and the base of the collar would solve your problem and make them antler buttons and you'll add a distinct look to yours. Only trouble is having to cut and sew button holes in the cape.

4 antler buttons would look cool.

All I did was cut the whipstitching at the collar and pull it out a bit till I got nearly to the bottom of the V.

Then I re-whipped it there.

I like the idea of buttons but I'd have to cut the wool and I've never had good experiences sewing buttonholes on wool, lol!
