I'm in the market for a good quality pack that would surpass my Medium ALICE in versatility and would also allow for attachment of a sleep system in some way

I have a Large Molle and it works pretty good, they are LARGE and will carry a lot of stuff. The sleep system carrier will pack a full sized cold weather bag. I live in S fla and only need a smallish sleep system so I carry the large Alice most of the time. I use a hammock and a roll up pad with a tarp and skeeta tent and am good with that system for days. If you need a full size bag, I think I would go with the MOLLE system

Whats your budget? How many cubic inches are you looking for? Also have you looked at doing the Alice hellcat mods? There are lots of commercial packs depending on your budget. Another route is mil surplus. You can go from modded Alice packs with DE 1606 frame, to cfp90 packs, Molle 1 or 2 and the usmc ilbe. Tons of foreign packs too. How much are you looking to spend? What are your plans for the pack? Any specific features you're looking for?

I think a MOLLE II setup will do for what I need. Overnighters, weekend 2-3-4 day trips. Probably the extent for the foreseeable future

For now I settled on the molle ii Assault Pack. It holds my odds and ends along with my patrol bag from the mss, and my hennessy hammock. seems ok so far, but I really haven't got the chance to take it out yet. I'll know more in a month or two.

and I think I paid 25ish dollars on it. plus shipping.

I emailed him to see which gen frame, if not a 4, then I'll be buying one separate. Can't seem to find a complete pack WITH a gen 4 frame

As you already have the medium Alice you could try this set up... bits can be found on the net for less than 50$ and the frames cost 35$.

I had no idea you could attach the ALICE to a MOLLE frame! I may just order that one from tonystactical and since it doesn't appear to have a Gen IV, then buy a separate Gen IV frame for it, and use the frame that comes with it for my ALICE!! BOOM two good packs

You can't use a standard molle frame with an alice pack. the one pictured by garethw is a 1606ac frame from Downeast.

I think you are over thinking the whole "frame generation" thing. If you aren't going to jump out of airplanes with the pack strapped between your legs or toss your pack around like a gorilla it is hightly unlikely any generation of molle frame will fail.

I totally agree with wildernut... all the Molle frames will stand up to civvy use... however the 1606ac frame I used just makes it very easy to build this pack. The Alice just slots right on, and the MSS carrier can be clipped by the top set of toggles.
The pack is big enough for my gear and carries pretty well. Far better than the bog standard Alice.

You can't. That's the DE 1606 frame with hellcat mods mentioned previously.
HOW TO MODIFY ALICE INTO HELLCAT

Can I use the 1606 frame for the hellcat mod? Also, can you use the 1606 frame with the large ALICE ruck?

I would stick with the ALICE pack. I have a medium and it works great, and if you pack right you can fit a lot in it. I thought I needed more pack room, so i bought a brand new MOLLE II rifleman pack setup. Overall I was very dissapinted. It was much more comfortable than alice, but after about 5 miles on the first hike (loaded with only about 30lbs) the frame started to creak and make bad sounds. I have a gen IV frame just for reference. I took the kidney pad, and sleep system carrier and attatched them to my alice. Made it ride alot better and the new kidney pad made a world of difference. Also High Speed Gear makes a thing called the ALI pad for the alice pack. Looks very nice. your alice will do what you want it too. Just look around some more. Also the MOLLE sustainment pouches can even be attatched to the sides of your alice, though they will contact your elbows a little while walking.

Sorry, posted before veiwing second page. garethw, that is a very nice settup. Does the frame flex a lot? Also, how did you attatch the fastex buckels on the outisde pouches?
