My 70 dollar folding single shot weighs 5 lbs 4.5 ounces. The 19 inch barrel and action weighs 3 LBs 4.5 ounces. The short 13.5 inch long wood stock (with no forearm) with limbsaver pad weighs two pounds.

Does anyone know of a polymer stock I could put on that would drop the 2 pound weight of the current wood stock?

I dont know but you could always take a jig saw and cut the center of the stock out, that would drop a pound at least, further sanding and carving could reduce it even more.

I don't have any suggestions, but I absolutely love the name "Devils Elbow"

perhaps you could cut the stock off at the grip and then add a aluminum tube with a curved butt plate on the end, perhaps even attach a recoil pad to the curved butt plate. Maybe the tube could serve as storage for something

Long stock screw under the buttplate. That's not any H&R I ever saw. Who makes it?

pat

An H&R won't fit for sure...trigger guard extends in to the stock, and an H&R has a kinda "socket" on the receiver. (Just changed one out last night).

I would be interested in knowing who made the "Devils Elbow" as well.

pedritti.

I wonder if the stoeger condor synthetic stocks would fit.

You may be able to remove some wood from the buttstock. If it is an NEF it should be a through-bolt design. If you remove some wood from the buttstock do it slowly. Personally at 5 lbs 4.5 oz I am not sure why it needs to go lighter. What gauge is it?

Have you considered doing a little weight training so you can carry a few extra pounds, i'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but theirs just so much weight that you can chop off before things start to go south.

The first thing you could do is to settle on one caliber or gage and lose all those inserts and the extra barrel, that will drop a few pounds for sure.

Just trying to be helpful.

Hey!

Ahhhh I'm decently fit.

I don't carry all the inserts.

Just wondering about shaving weight off the stock without compromising the firearm.

I'm curious if I can acquire a synthetic stock of a similar gun for not too much money. I already don't use a for end. Yeah, it was a good deal. The recoil of a 12 with slugs or buckshot is stout ( I don't really "enjoy" shooting my 870 for long sessions) I do have a limbsaver pad on it. Using the 20 gauge adapter, one gets less recoil, and still good patterns for game gettin. I like the DE because it fits in the inside flap of the wrap around pockets of my elberstock pack x2 http://www.eberlestock.com/X2 Pack.htm My Sub 2000 also fits similar Day pack size packs. This is handy for woodsbummin/hiking when not carrying an Open firearm with a size pack of the x2.

My saiga only weighs 2 pounds more then the DE. Carrying openly I'd much rather have the saiga then the DE for 2 pounds increase in weight. I'm not really sure why I need a 12 gauge single shot along woodsbummin. The sub 2000 would do a better job at protection with 1 less pound.

I've been bitten by the weight bug. I have a notepad being filled with items and their weight. 1 pound is incredible for what you could put/have with your tools into the SKSR (survival kit size restrictions) of a backpack. For example, I could pack the 9 oz antique dial 22 insert without increasing weight if I had a lighter stock.

We seem to get really obsessed with weight of our edged tools, what I'm trying to do is shave the weight of the DE.

I realy wouldn't cut or chop on that stock.

As you can FUBAR it and I'm not sure how hard it would be to replace.

Or at least trade it for a HR/NEF where you can get a spare stock if you do mess it up.

Maybe keep the little gem as is and get a NEF to whittle on?;)
