Many of you know, I have been so lucky with the Fatwood, am doing a giveaway to two people (will pick them Saurday)...
Was out searching for more Pepper Tree's (will be doing another thread on that) for more walking sticks, and found 3 old downed pines, I assume from the Hurricanes of 2004/2005...
One is a good 60 ft in length, the other two about 40-50. All three are about 2 ft in diameter, a large part of that punky, but then a lovely core about 10" in diameter of pure Pitchwood, er, Fatwood..
Hoping to get back in there this weekend to start harvesting it... Where they are uprooted, the tangled roots have got to be awesome. Haven't cut into them yet, but you can see the amount of tangled roots in the picture...
Too bad there isn't a market for this stuff.. Checked on epay, and with the shipping being $12, these guys are oly making about $6 for every 10lbs of Fatwood they are selling... Not very much for the work involved...

Just got my cache of fat wood from you. Thanks brother!

I have sent a lot out to people here that could not find any. And will continue to do so as long as funds permit me to continue covering shipping for everyone. I have more than I will use so I spread it around

Cut some down to about 6 inches long and the size of a thick pencil. Wrap some up in jute and put it out for trading material.

super score:D im goin out this weekend to do some fatwood hunting here in oregon:D
....mostly just a reason to get out now that the weather is getting better a little:D

My wife and I brought home the bottom three feet or so of a pine stump with some roots at the end yesterday. I haven't taken it apart yet but it looks like it's going to be good. After cutting it off with a hawk I can tell you that it sure isn't punky.

We also grabbed some milkweed, mullein and birch bark. The milkweed ovums seem a little damp but hopefully, I can let them dry out some and they'll be ok? I guess we'll see.

I have been searching around my area. The quest for the perfect fatwood. That looks like a mondo score! I have a forty pound chunk stashed from where I worked it off of a downed pine. I would have harvested more to take home but I chopped a chunk off of my finger cleaning the rotten stuff off. Nice mora and that FW looks like a nice rosey color.

Don't need to send any my way, but thanks for the giveaway! Kudos to you!!!:dblthumb:

Thanks folks... Yeah, I wish I could do it for a business, spend all day Bushcrafting, and making money... Now THAT would be the ticket!!!
Two people will know Sunday that they will soon have a couple years worth of the stuff!
