I built a fire in the house. Actually it is the Christmas present the wife and I gave each other.

First, I built this.

I built the wooden platform at the height I wanted, then put on metal lathe on the wall, then covered the lathe with mortar.

Then we picked out the "rocks" we wanted for each location.

Then we stuck em on the wall.

Did the bottom the same way. Then come back and fill in the mortar joints with more mortar. The set up the vent free gas logs from Lowe's. They are 24" and have "glowing embers" and a remote....is that cool or what?
