Is this even worth considering?

I used one of these as part of a DIY gravity filter as in this site.

It was not a stellar experience.
.
My hydration tube was not a good fit for the filter: lots of fiddling around.

If you google around on "Frontier Pro" and "micron" you will discover some sites that state this filter filters down to 3 microns. That's actually quite large in the world of sick-making bugs.

I would strongly suggest that you chemically treat your water before filtering it.

Even though I managed to get the tube to stay on, and treated my water with aquamira tabs before filtering, I still got cryptosporidiosis on that trip. Could have been cross contamination, could have been a filter/chemical failure.

I don't know for sure, but I tossed that bad boy asap.

I have since switched to a First Need with an absolute particle retention of 0.4

Thanks for the heads up bro!

I've used them never got sick from anything in the water, neither did my grandson. Filters don't last very long with wild water here in Florida. I have 2 or 3 left but there in our PSK's for emergency only.

I have a couple and actually love 'em
I've never been sick from using them so I'm guessing they work.

I usually use mine with a platy bottle but have used it with a camelback as well.
(Just make sure to remove the rubber piece for use with Camelback brand bladders).

I used it to purify some nasty green water at a lake before, water came out clear.

Down side is only does 50 Gallons (which isn't much compared to other systems).
Doesn't seem like much, but I usually don't purify more than 2 Gallons per outing...
So figure it'll last 25 outings, not really that bad... Cheap insurance if you ask me...

Here is what I used it on last:

Used with Platypus Bottle - Transfered to GI Canteens:

We were testing out the filters and wanted to see what chemical treatment we preferred so afterwards, we did a blind-folded taste test with the left over water.
All Glasses were filtered with a Frontier Pro (Left to Right): Iodine - Iodine with Sweetener Tablet - Chlorine Dioxide:
