John Pennekamp park

These were taken week of Christmas, we were supposed to go diving but the boat was blown out so we went to Pennekamp instead. It was very nice view wise however the snorkeling left alot to be desired for the same reason the dive boats were not going out.

Many thanks to some members who took time out to give me some good pointers as well.

Sorry the weather didn't cooperate. The winds can really booger up the diving in the winter.

man that's right around the corner from me... been there 100 times.... too bad longkey is closed.... next time you're around there stop at a place called gilberts resort... it has a little beach, live band and good food & and the best ceviche I have ever eaten...

They did settle down and we completed our check dives on Thursday and Friday. (although I do not know how my son did not lose his regulator because he was smiling so huge!) Couple more pix, man I miss it already. Had great fun tellin the folkes back home that were experiencing cold wind, rain, and 40 degree weather that it was 80 something and we were sitting at the beach wearing shorts, flip flops and drinking out of a coco nut!

This was not at the park but this big guy greeted us every morning outside the condo balcony. Actually ended up finding about 5 of his brothers/sisters but cannot find where my pix of them went.

Beautiful place to spend some time. I went to UM & lived in and around Miami for about 7 yrs.

Every time I went down past Florida City I thought of not coming back.

When we lived in Vero Beach and the family was together, we spent a lot of time diving Key Largo and Pennekamp. Even managed to pull the SeaDoo down and actually went tent camping in August. Heat and humidity you just don't forget !! I've often wondered how many of the bushcrafters would fare among the mangroves and gators. Not that they couldn't, it would just be a new experience. Glad to see you got some down time WAY south !!

Nice vacation. And those coconuts are life saving if you are ever in need of clean water. The milk is an acquired taste but you could fill canteens with it and pack a few coconuts for later. The meat is good also roasted on a fire.
