I got out on the lake today to get some fishing in. With the lake level so low some of my honey holes just ain't there. Then when I went to another area the structure was gone!! I don't mean little brush piles, I mean big old dead trees that have been there a real long time. I could not help to get a little ticked off! Later on today I was fishing next to a boat dock and the owner came down to the dock with some kids to feed some ducks. I kindly asked here what happened to all the trees? She said harshly "We the homeowner association finally raised enough hell with the city and got it cleaned up because seeing old dead trees in the water is a eye sore and not good for our property value. She then said "Now if we can rant enough with the city to keep the boats away from our docks! I just smiled at the nut job and continued fishing away. This lake is just under 2000 acres and built in 1957. These big house were built in the area I was fishing in the past 10 years and yet they think they own the whole darn thing. For the last few years the game warden has been issuing tickets to these same people for harassing the fishermen by throwing rocks at the fishermen catching what they think are there fish around there boat docks LOL! At times all you can do is shake your head. They don't care if the fish have the natural structure they need. I can't help but laugh. They think they are have issues now with the fishermen around there docks. They are going to real shocked this spring when the weather warms up and all those fishermen who hibernate during the winter hit all them docks with a lot of the natural structure gone LOL! I just know it was my tax dollars paid for the removal.

Wow that stinks man. Your fishermen in the spring made me think of the "redneck yacht club" song. I bet they won't be to happy to see that either.

Sounds like the privileged wealthy class. They paid so much for their lake front property why should they let the little people use it?

I only got yelled at one time day LOL! I was fishing on a point about 100 yards out, and the house that sat at least 75 yards from the water. They had 3 good sized dogs just barking up a storm at me. About 20 min later The owner came out and yelled at me to fish some were else. He done this at least 3 times with in 10 min. I can't understand why yell at me it is your dogs bugging you. I mean that is almost 200 yards! I could hardly hear him or the dogs. Why live on a public lake if you cant handle the public on the lake? If I was right by his dock I would have moved on just so I wont have to listen to the darn yappers.

You could take a note from the Navy. Find some old boat that needs too much work and somebody is giving away. Paint it black or green, saw some holes in the bottom, and fill the inside with beach balls. Tow it where you think the lake needs some structure and pop the beach balls, creating an "artificial reef". One place I used to go fishing had almost no natural cover, somebody had anchored a small boat with holes in the bottom out in the middle of the lake and the baitfish would hang out there, drawing in bass and pike. The edges of the boat floated a few inches above the water and was bright white, and the area was too small for powerboats, so it worked out pretty good, I would paddle out in my inflatable kayak and tie off to it.

Meh, just haul a bunch of tree limbs or old xmas trees out, and tie concrete or cinder blocks to them, sink the just deep enough to cleat the props on boats.
you'll have structure, and they won't be able to see it to complain.

Wish I could drop some structure, but the local police will issue a ticket for littering. The lake is owned by the city. To put any water craft on the lake cost 30 bucks per water craft per year. This includes kayaks and canoes. The city has its laws on there water and the parks and wildlife also enforces the state laws on this lake. They are doing good at keeping the two separate, that is a real good thing! The lake is slowly going down hill since more and more houses are being built. It also seems these city folks just can't keep there trash in the trash. Just no respect at all, and don't even get me started on the wake boarders, water skiers, and jet skis. If they would obey the darn laws on the water I would be tickled pink!

What about felling a tree or two from the shoreline? Get to practice those axe skills.

I was in my secret spot one time, a small bay that you had to go through about 70 yards of seaweed to get to. These yahoos saw me pulling in fish and spent the next hour paddling their large bass boat through this bass haven to fish 5 feet from my kayak. tore up a lot of beds doing it. Since then I carry a rather large nasty looking muskie bait and knife for cutting line that gets cast across my boat :D

are there any other places for you to fish??? I would hate fishing there.... to many people.

I try to stay away from the main body, mostly in the creek and river area. From Oct. to May the lake is nice and quiet. When the sandies start to run in march to April the hibernaters come out to fish and then the lake is still pretty nice since most fisherman respect the water. I live on this like, over on the poor side LOL! so when time it limited or gas funds are low I fish here. I have been fishing this lake since 1978 and I can always find fish even when folks screw up some good holes. There are some of the best lakes around only a hour and half away like lake fork and many many others. Since I fish mostly alone, I try to stay close to home during the winter.

HA ha ha good call .... cut the line with a machete instead and give them the evil eye.... point at them and with a snarl say " It's you!".... stink bait an a rattle snake hat band helps tooo...... just keep stareing at them till they get uncomfortable and leave.

Around the lake I use to fish on had a town ordannce against loud dogs, try calling the cops and seeing if theyll ticket the a-hole.
I REALLY cant stand those yahoos that by lakefront property because its "so scenic" then bring in a buldozer to level the whole shoreline. If the EPA wants to do something productive maybe they should set regulations up to protect fish and wildlife areas from tourists and morons with more money than sense.
