So...It's the time of month where I go out and needlessly blow a day's worth of pay on another blade...Now, I have the Ontario Raider Bowie and love it for a chopper and most uses but my excuse to, "need" a new knife is that the balance combined with the handle shape on it gets on my nerves. So...I've been eyeing up a few other bowies that are around 100 bucks(I don't buy a knife a month and actually have to save for a good long time before buying ANY, by the way). I've seen the RATs and Ranger, etc style and handled them a bit, but same problem with them...I'm picky, I admit. I don't like the down-sweeping blade...However, I like the BK9 and the Kabar Big Brother as they have more straight blades. Sadly, aside from handling, I've never been able to test/use one. So what do y'all got to say? I know a few people here have the BK9, but what about Kabar Big Brother? Anyone? Sock it to me. Thanks fellas. :3:

Unfortunately I don't own either. However...the BK-9 is on the short list for my next purchase. I think as a large knife the BK-9 offers a better blade design for multiple uses. I am a little biased since I LOVE my BK-2.

Happy hunting!

Got a BK-9, still playing with it, like it a lot. Not familiar with the Big Brother, but that is sure a bad name choice these days. Ought to fire their ad agency. :)

A BK9 would be a wise choice. Two knives in one, even tho the little piggyback blade is made in China, its a great little blade and with big daddy the set covers all you would need in the woods knife wise. I personally like the sheath that comes with it. Each to his own, but its a great deal.

I have a BK9 and my lovely lady has a big brother and she did a comparison of both of them over on bladeforums.

Was going to link to that if I could overcome my natural inertia to do so. Thanks Widerstand!

I use my BK9 all the time while out hunting and can't say enough good about it. It's a great knife that's super modable (if you care about that) and a pleasure to use. Get one - you won't be sorry.

It's still a wise choice though it no longer comes with the free ramora. You can get a US made ramora for about $20 if you want or use the pouch for something else. BK9 is worth the price all by itself - no add-on freebies needed.

I own both as well and for woods use, or any use aside from stabbing stuff, I would pick the BK9 over the Big Brother.

I did own both put them both through their paces, only have pics of the BK9 because it surpassed the big brother in my eyes.So to sale went the big brother and to photo went the BK9

The ontario GEN 2 might be an option sp50 -52 all kinda similar to the BK9, something I've noticed with the BK2 I've been using is the fatigue I get if I chop with it alot(I'm not a big chopper person anyway). I've been leaning hard toward a bk7 personally as next knife purchase, or the Doug Ritter/Becker. Out of the two you are talking about I'd say the bk9.

I have experience with only the BK-9, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

The high grind ends in a fine edge making it an excellent slicer and also allows it to bite deep into wood; if this edge were any softer it would most certainly roll, and any harder it would likely chip on harder woods. The grind, blade geometry and heat-treat are expertly executed on this knife, making it a versatile, heavy duty tool.

If you have a chance, check out the chestnut ridge knife shop over on route 30. They have pretty nice selection of kaba r, becker, ontario choppers. I would look at the Spec Plus Gen IIs there alot of blade for the money.

Thanks Bill

Alright...Y'all made up my mind. Gonna go with the ol' BK9 =D May pick it up tomorrow on the way home from work at Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop...BTW Bill Cox: I have to drive past that place everyday on the way home...It's like having to drive past the bar everyday and being an alcoholic...Thanks for all the info though everyone! Was most useful. Y'all rock.

Well, I did it... :D :D :D :D :D Now to make it a pair of nice wooden grips during all that free time that I don't have....Will post pictures when I get it finished.
