Kepis sent me a very nice little field strop. I used it today and got the following result:
KepisStropJob1015.jpg

It cut through index cards like a hot knife through butter!

Reverse side (dyed):

He even stamped my initials into it (to keep my friends from pinching it):

PROS:

  • Compact (can be easily rolled up and put in pack, murse, or pocket for field use),
  • Is easily loaded with strop compound for abrasive effect,
  • Has leathern loops on the ends for ease and safety of use,
  • Is sturdy,
  • Works well!
CONS:

  • I honestly can't think of a single problem with this thing. This is the real deal, and at ₤9.95 (approx. $14.95USD), it can't be beat.
I highly recommend Kepis' leatherwork. He is a true gent, a real pleasure to talk to and deal with. His products are top quality, handmade goods and I can speak for the strop at least--Good Stuff!

Thank You Kepis:)

Normally i would, but im using the last bar i had, tbh these guys can supply it much cheaper than i can, in fact i can't even get it this cheap over here.

BTW, i have two large strops and one mini left at the moment

Magic Stroping Crayon?????????? Do tell what that might be and does the leather need to be warm when you apply it?

How did I miss this thread? Kepis I really like those strops, what a great idea, and decorative also. Always good to see functional items that look great.

Magic stropping crayon is a just a stropping compound MSbushman, i use Flexcut Gold it comes as a large bar almost like a giant kids crayon, just apply it to the strop and strop your blade as normal, it gives a high polish finish the blade and removes any trace of the burr/wire edge you can get after sharpening.

http://www.flexcut.com/products/cart.php?target=product&product_id=975&category_id=95, i did a short video on the effect the stuff has, a before and after if you like, you can see the compound helps to put a mirror finish on the bevel as well as giving a super sharp edge, 99 times out of 100 i use the strop to get my blades back to shaving sharp, rarely do i take them them to my sharpening stones these days, and then it's mainly because i have chipped or dinged the edge somehow.

Hth's?

Kepis, excellent equipment. What is the size difference between the mini and the regular field strop ?

Large - 80cm long x 5cm wide (31 x 2 inch)
Small - 38cm long x 3.8cm wide ( 15 x 1.5 inch)

Guys, these strops are top-notch and a great deal.
Jump on it if/when you can!
