Hello folks ,

My hunters axe adventure has come to an end. I received my replacement axe yesterday. Complete with all the literature and nice personally signed apologetic letter. No questions asked.
Lee Valley Tools and Gransfors Bruks are two stand up companies that have outstanding customer service. They paid for all the shipping. I won't hesitate dealing with them both in the future.
Incidentlly, I noticed the axe has LP for the forger's mark, Lennartt Pettersson. He's featured in the axe booklet that accompanies the axe. He seems to be a senior forger so I bet she's a really good one.

Here's the new axe and the letter.

That's great they took care of it for you. Now you have a wonderful axe to enjoy and a go to company for futurre purposes. Thanks for sharing.

I have no GB experience, but you wouldn't believe the length Lee Valley goes to to make people happy. I had a block plane from them where the blade had some edge retention issues. A nice post on a woodworking forum said that this is normal for edge tools and after a few sharpenings you'll get past the brittle bit at the very edge. Fair enough, the tool was not defective, I just needed to fettle it a little.

Then I get a personal email from Rob Lee informing me a replacement iron was in the mail! :11: The owner of the company had looked up my user info, which only gave him a name, cross referenced it with my order to get my email address and mailing address, and sent a replacement with a hand written apology for an item that everyone agrees wasn't really defective! The new iron was hand sharpened and contained some shavings taken with it to make sure that its edge was pristine!

I didn't even contact the company!

Needless to say, they made a life-long customer that day. Even my wife loves them, and that's saying something because she doesn't love me buying as many tools as I do. :D

This isn't the most impressive story I've heard about them either, but I better stop now or you guys are going to think I work for them. ;)

Outstanding! I'm glad this worked out for you. Also, it's nice to see a couple companies standing behind their products.

great to hear! I would have expected nothing less from either of these fine companies, but it's great to see it play out as such!

That is an incredible story. I have never heard of a company going that far out of its way to satisfy a customer. Very cool.

I am a cabinetmaker by trade and have been a customer of Lee Valley for almost 30 years. They have exceptional customer service , stand by their products , and I have never had a negative issue with them.

I've met the original founder Leonard Lee myself and found him a very knowledgeable and personable man. His seminars were always full and I was lucky to attend a few of myself. Their Veritas line of woodworking tools are top notch and he had a lot of input in creating them.

I'm glad they were able to take care of you.

+1 on all this -- Lee Valley has the right idea with their customer service and quality of merchandise. They have laid claim to a significant chunk of my change over the years. :D

As a stairbuilder' I used their layout tools extensively, various chisels, plane irons and sharpening equip. as well, all top drawer. I still have much of it, great company ...Uncas

Wow that would be neat to have met the original founder. Bet he would have had a few good stories.

I knew an old guy and his wife, where my folks had a cottage. He knew many of the old ways and skills and was quite tall, about 95 pounds, with giant forearms and hands, he worked me under the table when I was 16, erosion proofing with rock around the cottage shore line.
