As I'm laid off now and live in the very southern end of Illinois I was wandering if anyone else lives around close to me. If so PM me maybe we can meet up as no one else in my family enjoys bushcrafting much.I am always looking for new friends.

While I used to live near St Louis I'm now in Michigan so not too "near". I do miss some of the beautiful areas down there. Ferne Cliff is awesome. Where exactly are you down there?

Sounds like we haunt the same woods, bacon. :) there's a few folks from southern Illinois on the forum, but so far the ones I've actually hung out with have been upstate bushcrafters who have come down to camp in the Shawnee with me, as well as some St Louis area folks.

Check out the Illinois forum under Local Groups, and also the neighboring states. The last local meet was actually in MO just across the river. (sorry to say I missed that one due to a knee injury) not sure where you are located exactly, but I have a very flexible schedule and use pretty much any excuse to get out into the woods. :)

I'm not exactly local but I try to get down below RT 13 any chance I can. I have a couple vacation days I need to burn before the end of Jan. I wouldn't mind a little winter overnighter somewhere in the SNF. Just pick a time and place.

I live over by the Dale, so spend most of my time towards the western side of the forest. I don't get over to the east often enough, though I was not too far from Ferne Cliff just two days ago (closer to Panthers Den Wilderness).

Would be awesome if we could get some Shawnee locals together to practice some skills and share some local knowledge (trails, etc). The waterfalls at Ferne are probably running good right now too. :)
