Hey guys and gals -

Here's a link to the Maxpedtion M-5 waistpack so anyone can see dimensions if not familiar:
http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/M-5-WAISTPACK-6p161.htm

I've owned this thing for a few years even before I joined on this forum. I've watched and read, and i KEEP trying to find a good use for this item! :6:
I picked it up last nite...tried to use it again...and in minutes...it was back on the gear shelves.

I've used it at times to hold a snubbie or my G26 or G27, add in a camera...or a cell phone and wallet...
....and it's like I've got a Nerf Football sized thing on my waist! :(

Tried it as a fishing pouch with a few fly boxes and odds and ends...but again, it tends to get "fat" rather easily...
and then it's really just in my way unless I spin it completely around to my back. (which I have better options for that.)

It may be useful attached to a pack - does anyone do that?
if so, what do you use it for?

All the other Maxped gear that has gone thru my hands....ahem...a LOT of it!:54:....
I can say I "see" it's usefulness - even if it's not 'for me', like say a gearslinger...

but ....I just can't see how to use this pack!?! - so I thought I'd just ask what you all are doing with it? Got any pics? :45:

thanks for your input. :42:

To be hones I have a bag just like this one but from fox. I find that this bag makes a perfect lettle survival bag for my belt. I can keep shelter, fire and more in the bag. An altoids tin fits it with room to spare so set it up as a small emergency survival kit.

Have you tried carrying it slug across one shoulder? I've seen a couple guys that use em like that. Like a mini possibles bag.

Texasoutback - my much smaller M-2 waistpack is my version of a PSK (I call it a ditch kit)
I can live pretty luxuriously from this for a few days....and it's posted on a thread on the forum here.

I did try it as a sling, tennecedar - that was the day I tried it as a fishing pack. it was "ok" but too bulky by the time I loaded it up...under my arm was too thick...I ended up pushing it behind me all day. went back to better fishing options...

maybe I'm not "missing something"??? I dunno...it just bothers me to have had a piece of gear for a few years and still not find a decent use for it.

You're absolutely right brother.. You'll never find a use for it, so you should just send it to me.. ;)

j/k

Maybe try just a multi-tool and snack bar along with your 10x4 or whatever water bottle you carry.. Go for an ultra-lightweight hike and see how that works for you.. Just an idea

camera bag, that's all I could figure to use it for.

I've got the Condor version and I havent really landed on a specific use for it yet. Sometimes its a camera pouch, other times I will put my fire kit and possibles in there, or sometimes it might be for a map and compass. Just kind of depends on whats required at the time.

dang it i you beat me to it

It holds my 5'x7' BCUSA tarp plus paracord and stakes. Plus ... some other smaller gear.

In essence ... your tarp pouch.

dogboy - no, my G23 will not fit. It's fairly tight for the G26 and G27. but the 19 and the 23 will not fit.

At least not without really torqueing the zipper and then it may not open on you when you need it...which defeats the purpose of having a gun in the first place...

the Uncle Mike's gunpak belt pouch is not a lot of money - about 1/2 what I paid for the M-5 when I bought it retail a few years ago - and it will hold the 23/19 for ya if you want to go that route. just an idea.
