Shortly before the holidays I picked up an MSR Pocket Rocket on sale at REI. This is the first ISO Butane stove I've used and I really like it. It's small easy to pack and lightweight. It's not going to replace a wood fire but for those days in the desert I just want a quick cup of tea or coffee with the Missus it's perfect.
I decided to make a container to carry the stove and be able to boil water in so I took a Stainless water bottle and cut it down. The bottle had a bottom piece that came off while cutting. I bent the top opening out a little bit, flipped the bottom piece upside down and it fit snugly back on top. This left me with about a 2 cup container with a lid.
The immediate issue was that the can was hard to get off the stove because it was too hot. A GI canteen worked great.
Tonight I took a Silicon baking dish I got from Goodwill and cut a strip to go around the top of the can and laced it on. I will hopefully test this out tomorrow.
I do need to come up with a better way to keep the silicon on because it tears out easily.
A small bic will fit in the red MSR case so this and a fuel can would be all I would need to carry.
Let me know what you think
