Haven't posted in a few months but thought I would give everybody a heads up on the new and improved mora. I bought the mora clipper in od green bout a year ago it has been a great knife even in stainless I love it. So I was at smoky mountain knife works andsaw they had replaced the clipper with the companion. Only difference I thought was the handle and the blade finish. Well when I got it home and compared the two there is quite a feww improvements. The new companion blades is a lot thicker close to twice as thick. The new handle design I like a lot better. The sheath holds a lot better and rides up the hanlde over a 1/4 inch higher than the clipper. All in all both great knives for 12.99 each but the companion really is awesome. This maybe common knowledge if so sorry but it was all new to me. Pictures coming soon

Here is profile picture I just noticed the companion (bottom) has a little bit longer handle

Not good picture but you can somewhat tell the difference. I really like it a lot. I haven't got the chance to really use it hard yet but want be long and it will start getting beat up

pics of blade thickness comparison between the 2 if you could- please and thank you.

Thanks, I had not seen a Companion first hand. Glad to know of the changes.
Having a handful of Mora knives, I do not buy new ones save when gifting on to friends, so it takes a while to learn about the new changes.

I will get some more pictures up sometime today. It is a great knife and I swear their like potatoe chips can't have just one.

thanks for the heads up, bigfoot!

If the actual blade is different by very much....I gotta get some more of the old ones....

I spent more on some Kydex sheaths than I did on the blades, lol. I better get some more blades for the future!

Coolness. Thanks for the info: I've been scheming on getting my paws on one and was wondering what the differences were on those two exact blades...can't tell from catalog pics!

I'm a Mora convert for sure. I got my hands on my first scandi blade just a couple months ago when bro Jontok sent me a couple Hultafors. Since then I was gifted a Mora 511. I am in totally love with these blades. Just about everything I've griped about with knives over the years is not a problem with these! From easier to use to easier to sharpen!

I think the steel has a lot to do with it too. My wife is a hairstylist and has a VERY expensive pair of Japanese shears...one of the best available at the time. They would be near a thousand bucks to replace today. The tie-in: They are made from Swedish bog steel. Very quality carbon blades that take and hold an ultra-scary sharp edge.

When Frosts and KJ Eriksson merged into Mora of Sweden a few years back they did some consolidation of their production lines. They appear to have dropped the Frosts stub tang blades in favor of the KJE #2...the Eriksson blades have always been a bit thicker, better finished and have the longer rat-tail tangs.

That's what they have been using in the in the new Allround, Companion and traditional wood handle series as far as I can see. The laminated blades are still same as the original Frosts, KJE was not producing any at the time of the merger...although they once did in the past.

I am pretty sure these would still work in your sheath. But then again I'm not very familiar with kydex either. I sure would like to eventually get one for this knife it would really make it a good user.

I have one of the new companions in carbon and I absolutely LOVE IT. It's my first choice knife right now.

Yeah that's really what I was wanting was the carbon but they where out of stock so I went with stainless. But to be honest I have the clipper in carbon and stainless and have to say the stainless really holds up about as well as the carbon to me any wya. I still want the companion in orange with a carbon blade.

I ordered one about 10 days ago but am still waiting for it to come in the mail. I guess it's stuck in the Christmas stuff. I ordered it because my knife collection would be incomplete without a Mora blade and it's an inexpensive blade to practice stuff like sharpening etc on. I may buy the custom kydex sheath with matching firesteel that I have seen being sold on the internets.

I was so impressed by the new companions, I bought 5 of the stainless ones. The blades are .098 thick, the tangs are 2/3 into the handle, the spines are polished and have 90 degree edges, the handles have a better less abrasive gripping surface, and the plastic sheath is much better than the original clipper as the belt clip ridge is facing up and is much more secure on your belt. I think its the best knife you can get for 13 dollars. I'm giving a few to family and friends and keeping a couple for myself.

I made some kydex sheaths for my carbon clippers. My new stainless and carbon companion both fit fine.

The companion also now has a 3/4 tang instead
of the shorter old style tang on the clipper. Also
the red fos carbon clipper sold at Bushcraft
Outfitters has 3/4 tang.I have the red clipper
with the old style checkered grip its 2mm thick
and 3/4 tang and i love it carry it as my edc.

thank ya, bro!

yep, I got home tonight and thought to check the family BOB's..
we currently have 4 of these style Moras as they are my personal fav. Mora.
.
3 are the old style with the fishscale looking handles....(840mg)
and we got one of the new style with the wavy line in the handle (companion)

they are interchangeable in the slim -n-trim kydex sheaths we got for em.

good stuff!

I bought one of the Mora Companians from SMKW this fall. It was my first Mora and I love it.

I love the companions it is curently my favorite knife n that size range.
I think I have several in carbon and stainless
the stainless are thicker and finieshed better, The carbon blades are the same thicknes and spine finsih as the standard clipper, But all companions have the longer tang, and awesome handle.
I usually use the carbon as my primary and keep the stainlees in the bag for backup, and reverse the setup when kayaking or such

I have the High Q.

It’s the same thickness .079 of the older clipper but with a smaller blade and longer tang. I did have a Top Q but gave it away online. From the photos it seems like SS Companion's blade looks identical with the Top-Q right down to the polished spine. Granted the blade was thicker than my SS 860 but the finished spine made it appear even more so. Well looked like I am going to get a companion because I have wanted to replace that gifted Top Q but like the OD better.

I think Mora uses 12c27 or something of the sort. It does perform good and gets a nice polish. I tend to buy both SS and Carbon knives from the same models because they’re so inexpensive. I do prefer the 1095 but both are good.

I purchased a companion a few months ago. I didn't really like the knife and was confused as to where all the hype for Mora knives came from. Now the more I use the knife though the more I like it

To be honest, I almost forgot that the knife that I now use is the companion.

I've done a short entry in my blog (link)

Yet the 860 is in my finnish bushcraft bag, the Companion now rides in my fishing backpack (whis the one I use most of the time I out)

I took some hidden tang knives with me to my chiropractor today. She thought it was a neat idea so she xrayed them for a small fee. Top to bottom is Bushcraft Force Stainless, Companion Stainless, Clipper Carbon, Companion Carbon, AG Russel Deer Hunter. I scanned the xray so it didn't turn out great. At first it looks like they are uneven but I actually squared them with a straight edge where the plastic guards started. The tangs inside start at different places.

I like my new Companions a lot and have more faith in their tangs. I eally like my Bushcraft Force though!

If the tips on Force and Carbon Clipper look off thats because I turned them into drop points.
