I was looking at the shelters and bedrolls in some threads on here. I didn't really pay attention to the fact that my 8 yr old was looking over my shoulder.

Then she shows me how she was going to sleep. I'm so proud. She has a raised bed with "play" area underneath. She made a bedroll and hung a sheet for her shelter. She really thought the posts were cool, although she wanted to know if you let racoons share the bed. They need to stay warm too she says.

That just brought a very big smile to my face!!
Same as that girl with the firedrill......
Don't you just love it??

We really should have a thread about things like this.....
Wait a minute.... I'm just going to do that right now!

I think we have something like that Ron...

I have a posting of my youngest on our first outing, videos of her doing her first firesteel fire and one for flint and steel and freznel lens.

That's great! I just hope she doesn't build a long fire a few feet in front of that great shelter! :D

Congratulations, when is the next backyard camp out ? :)

She is ready to come with me as soon as I am far enough along in my physical therapy. She even has her own hammock to test. I still need to rig it with Whoopie Slings. But it looks like she is a natural!

Man I can't wait.

Bless her little heart!! Gotta love the little ones...
I will never forget when my son was 5 (now 19) and I was out with him on the river, spent over an hour showing him how to make fire using friction. I was so proud of what I had done, asked Lieden what he thought, and he replies "why don't you just use a lighter Dad?"
Thinking I would REALLY teach him well, I asked him "well what if you were stuck out here and didn't have a lighter?"
His reply?
Rolling his eyes, then holding his hands up like "I can't believe you asked me that", says...
"I would go down to the Minit-Mart and by one Dad!"..... I still shake my head and smile whenever I think of that day....
