I just picked up a MOLLE 2 pack, and need to know how to set it up.
It has no straps or frame, so I assume I will need those parts.
Any help would be apreaciated.

You mean a rifleman's pack? You are correct that if you have a pack, it needs straps. A picture of it would help. Sometimes with those it can be cheaper to buy a whole new one.

As "Sweenyguy" said - Ya 'might' be better off just getting the whole 'outfit' all together.

When I got my "Rifleman Ruck" I kinda pieced it together as I went, and when all was said and done I had paid Much more than if I had grabbed the whole thing off of eBay .. heh!
-- If however, you are putting together something custom, then You are off to a good start - The basic MOLLEE "bag" can be adapted to work in Many different ways :-)

This "MOLLE Care and Use Manual" might help you:
Note: That covers the whole MOLLE setup - but the part about the main ruck will show you how to put the bag and straps together - not entirely "intuitively obvious" .. heh!

All I know is that it says "MOLLE 2 main pack" on the NSN tag, and is woodland camo.
I found it in a gunshop for $20, and figured it was a good deal.
I know almost nothing about MOLLE packs though.

I'll try to get some pics up later.

You will need a frame, a set a shoulder straps, and the kidney pad at minimum to use the bag as intended. To complete the set-up you will also need 2 sustainment pouches and the sleep system carrier.
Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-ARMY-MOLLE-BACK-PACK-WOODLAND-CAMO-w-FRAME-MANUAL-/180806259482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a18e4931a

I have heard of guys modding the large pack to fit Alice pack shoulder straps and just using it like that though.

Ok, so it looks like I need to get a frame, straps, and kidney pad in order to use this pack.

Do you think this pack is enough of an upgrade from an ALICE pack that its worth investing in those parts, or would I be better off just to trade it off???

It's much larger then a medium alice once you add the sleep carrier system. Plus you can buy a complete molle II ruck for around $75 shipped.

The complete Rifleman system is huge, so unless you are planning on lugging the heavy sleep system, perhaps a tent, and a ton of other gear it's probably not the best option. I would only use it if I intended to carry more than 40 lbs. of gear or very large items.

Don't get me wrong, I have the entire system, but the main ruck hardly ever gets used. I use the smaller assualt pack much more often and with the pals webbing it can be loaded up pretty good itself, 30-40 lbs. and a tent or sleeping bag can be strapped to the bottom.

If you shop around you can get a complete Rifleman ruck for 50 bucks or so in real good shape, complete meaning it includes the sus. pouches and SS carrier. So, unless you can find the straps, waist/ kidney belt and frame for less than 20 I wouldn't bother. Because you would still need to buy the sus pouches and SS carrier.

Hope that helps.

Actually, he can add the straps and frame, and use that and it's not too huge. Use cargo straps to lash a foam mat and/or wool blanket to the frame under the pack. Tons of ways to set it up.
