New Coffee Pot

Well i usually use a keurig coffee maker, but last night i grabbed a new pot. I got a bialetti moka express 6 cup. Its a stove top brewer that makes italian style coffee. In all honesty it makes the best cuppa ive ever had. If you see one and like esspresso or other bold coffees, i would grab it up (got mine at traget for $30).

Only knock agaist is if you are in a hurry use a different brew method. Otherwise it is awesome.

Is that one the 2 piece types? Where you load the bottom and heat it.
 
I got one does a couple cups of jetfuel, they make stout coffee fo sure
 
My first cuppa was at a buddy's house NYE and i was like what kind of coffee are you using...

He showed me..nothing super special then he showed me the real gem behind the cup...this pot...been hunting one since...last night found it.
 
Do you use wood, or a supercat to heat it? The base looks tall enough to do either.
Looks kinda fancy to take out in the woods,tho...

So far just 'lectric element :D

Dunno how well the handles would jive w an open fire...but maybe a contained woodfire ala hobo stove or supercat (like you mentioned) might just work. Guess i got some experimenting to do...

I forgot to mention that a coffee press makes some of the best coffee I've ever tasted, I use one every morning.

I usually drink my coffee black but when I use this baby I drink my coffee "Cuban" style. Here is how I do it:

As the coffee starts to perk put about 4 heaping spoon fulls of sugar into a Pyrex measuring cup. Just as the first drops of coffee exit the tube in the top part of the pot pour a few drops, just enough to make a quarter sized spot on the sugar. Put the pot back on the heat and close the lid.

Now take a spoon and whip the coffee sugar mix until it is a brown paste. Next add some milk to a coffee cup and put it in the microwave until it is steaming hot.

When the pot is through percolating pour it into the sugar paste and stir. You will end up with a thick foam on the top. Take a couple of spoons of the foam and add it to your cup before you pour the coffee.

Add the hot milk and you have a Cafe Cubano con Leche. I first tried it in South Florida and now I am hooked!

I just ordered 2 of the exact same pots in the 3 cup size, I'm going to have to go to the store and get some Cuban coffee and see if I can make this stuff. I never learned how to make it when I lived in Miami but I drank it all the time. I can't drink all of the sugar now days so and I don't drink hot coffee, we will see how it goes.
 
Those moka pots make some great espresso-like brew. I use one to make cappuccinos in combination with a milk warmer/frother my wife got me for my birthday or with added hot water for an Americano style brew. :dblthumb:

Side note for those worried about their cholesterol: drinking unfiltered coffee (french press, moka pot, cowboy coffee or percolator) raises your cholesterol levels due to compounds in coffee that interfere with cholesterol regulation. Interestingly, the compound are removed by paper filters, so this doesn't happen with drip coffee. I'm not a health nut or anything, but I do bear it in mind and try not to drink excessive amounts of unfiltered coffee. I drink a lot of coffee on a daily basis as it is :D

Oh, and forgot to add, I like the Bialetti Musa Moka Pots - they're heavy stainless steel instead of aluminum so they heat nice and even and don't corrode like my aluminum one did. The only complaint I have is the hinge pin on the lid likes to come loose, otherwise I've been really happy with mine, really nice solid moka pot.
 
I saw one of these awhile back at the local goodwill for a few bucks. Almost picked it up for use on the trail but figured it's more weight than I want to carry. And since my drip pot works just fine at home, I don't really need something else sitting around in the kitchen.

Alas! Now I wish I'd picked it up. :D
 
I was just eying one a friend has at his pizza joint he's got a small one and you can use them over open flame, they have gas stoves there. Been really toying on getting one of these for a while now
 
You all are a bad influence... I've had that Bialetti Musa Moka pot in the 10 tasse size for a couple years now but have been wanting a smaller one for when I make coffee just for myself. This thread started me thinking again and I bought the 4 tasse finally so I can make solo cappuccinos :p

Tell me bout it never had such a long toy list before this place lol :D to many toys to little money
 
I've got 1, 3 and 4 cup models. The 1 cup is an bit small, so I use the 3-shot pot most often. The 4-cup is a stainless Imusa - LINK

I haven't tried my pots over a wood fire, you'd have to be careful with the handle...and I'd be a little concerned about gumming up the pressure relief valve with tar and soot from the fire. I've given some thought to adding a folding handle on mine...need to figure that out.

Being used greater volume of standard coffee, what I do is make Redeye coffee (I call it Stinkeye :D)...add the shot to a regular cup of coffee. In the field it makes instant coffee a lot more palatable.
