Today Frost River posted a new design via their Facebook account. From the description this pack it is an advanced version of their Summit Pack with one front pouch and two 2-in-1 side pockets with a sleeve behind the pocket.

Certainly looks promising as a daypack.:)

I was just looking at that it looks awesome

yeah..the guy on here that added the side pockets to the summit...I think he had the right idea.

the summit looks extremely useable in it's size and the attachments of the strap (with the ring) seem like they'd work well "on one shoulder". (urban carry)

the only thing that kept me from it in the past is I really don't dig top loaders anymore...
at least without some sort of recourse to digging in the "black hole" in the center for everything.

this could be real winner! (if they don't go nuts on pricing!)

Frost River is like crack to us over here on Bushcraft USA

Word! That little pack is awesome!!!!!!

Kifaru? Frost River? Maxpedition?? UGHHH My head is going to explode!!!!

I like it. I dunno if I'd like it more than my FR Summit, but... I like it! :D

On FB they say the price is going to be $190.

WHAT!!!????!!!!

this reminds me of the "Isle Royale" bag and all the threads leading up to it...(aka, the "BCUSA bag!")
had a lot of folks excited....then they drop the hammer on the sky high price!

I own several FR pieces...I love them...but I pick my places with 'em...that's for sure.

that's what kills me on Frost and Dulluth, their prices are insane US made or not they'd sell many more dropping the retail and still be able to pay the labor.

American labor is more expensive that outsourced overseas labor. $190 is a bit high for this but one thing for sure - you'll buy it once. It'll last forever.

Looks really nice, of course all their stuff is, would love to hit their store sometime.

That's $70 more than the current Summit pack = worth it in my opinion. I might very well get one.

EDIT: They are calling this pack the Summit Expedition. The slide pockets have slip sleeves behind for an axe, saw, whatever.

They are also rolling out what they call the Geologist Bushcraft pack for $170. Does not seem to have slip pockets.

They say on FB they are taking orders for both now.

Geologist on the left, Expedition on the right:

Love the classic rucks! Duluth Pack and Frost River are top notch.........
You get what you pay for IMO. They are expensive but so is life here in the states....
better a fellow countryman is making his living with the money I pay for a pack than a corporate conglamorate making 500% profit cause they only paid someone in China $3 to make one.

Yeah, I didn't mind paying FR's prices (on the Summit, not to be confused with Summit Expedition), my pack cost less than a lot of popular packs of the same size, which are all made in Taiwan or China. When people ask me what packs to get, I point them to FR and Kifaru. You get what ya pay for.

$190 isn't bad for the pack. It's not just the American labor, it's the American taxes and byzantine government regulations that have to be adhered to. Plus, the way they make them, they plan on you not having to replace it. A pack that wears out every year can be made cheaper, because they count on repeat purchases of the product.
