Got this in the mail today.Came antiqued but it was just dark so I buffed it back roughly to the brass- I might take it all the way back later - not sure yet, kinda like the way it is

Yeah for the pictures -I think it will be my fire kit but need to figure something out or make a sleeve for my steel so it doesn't scratch the lens

A wad of charcloth or jute twine on top of your flint & steel, its kept my lens in pretty good shape over the years...Uncas

Or cut a thin piece of leather that you can also use as a tinder snuffer if need be.

You can use a piece of rubber inner tube to protect the lens. Put it on top of your kit before putting the lens in. Works the same way that the twine and such that others have mentioned, but may last longer or have more multi uses.
