I pulled the trigger (pardon the pun) on this little beauty last night. I have been researching and watching these for about 10 months.

Cimarron Arms
Model: Frontier
Action: Single Action
Caliber: .45 LC
Barrel: 3.5"
Finish: Stainless Steel
Grips: Walnut Birds Head

It should be here next week and I am looking forward to putting this in a crossdraw holster for woods and daily carry.

Great looking piece in a fantastic caliber.
Should make for a nice carry gun.

You're gonna love it Faol!

Recoils a bit differently than most single action revolvers due to the grip design. Not bad, just different. It doesn't roll back in your grip quite the same.

They could be twins!

Got one just like it except blue and case hardened. Mine has spare 45 ACP cyl. Shoots great, but watch out for a little bite at the web of the thumb from the raised grip shoulder.

What CD holster did you buy?

That looks really slick ! Think I am jealous . :)

FAOL,
Fine little gun; you have great taste! .44 Special and .45 Colt are my favorite calibers.
A thing you may or may not be aware of is that the 3 1/2" revolvers do not get complete ejection with the short ejector rod. Some, like my FA 97 have to have the ejector housing taken off so that the cylinder can be removed for cleaning (as the distance the cylinder pin can be pulled out of the frame does not allow the end of the rod to clear the front of the cylinder-it hits the inside of the ejector rod).
There are a couple of work-arounds for these guys though, that can be found on the web.
1. The front of the cylinder pin (the end towards the muzzle that you grip) can be shortened a bit so that the ejector rod can be compressed more and push the empty case out a bit further. Some guys go to the extent of drilling a hole in the ejector rod thumb piece that will fit over the end of the cylinder pin head, effecting a little more extension...
2. The forward portion of the ejector rod housing slot (at bthe muzzle end) can be machined away from the barrel, elongating the slot to the left so that the ejector rod can be rotated to the left and out of the way of the cylinder pin when it is pulled out to remove the cylinder for cleaning.
I love the way my 3 1/2" rides in my cross draw and they truly are the epitome of John Taffin's Perfect Pack'n Pistol...(revolver).
Great find; let us know how it shoots.

ezra

None yet. I am looking at one from El Paso Saddlery, specifically the one below, but without the belt. I want a belt, but not with loops. I will add a slide pouch for extra rounds, my belt pouches for kit, and knife. Anyone know someone that makes a good holster? This revolver is the same configuration as the Colt SAA, just 3.5" barrel length.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware of the issue on the 3.5" barrel, but I will check out the resolutions and correct the deficiency. I used to shoot Cowboy Mounted Shooting with a dual Vaquero rig, with the 4 5/8" barrels. My first pistol at 21 yo, was a Ruger Blackhawk, which I still have.

For holsters, if you don't see what you like at ElPaso, check out Rick Bachmann at Old West Reproductions in Montana or D.M. Bullard (my favorite maker) in Texas.

Either one are top notch, 1 guy shops that make the very best...
I have had holsters from both for years...

That is a beauty. I like the look of those grips. Reminds me of a gun that a guy would wear in a shoulder rig.

I love the 45 LC. Its the one pistol caliber I will never be without. Versatile.

Speaking of shoulder rigs, I have one of these coming from Old West Reproductions for my S&W 629 and may get one for my FA 3 1/2", when money permits.

I would be interested in hearing what led you to your decision. Pros-cons, what role that baby will fill for you etc... Thanks

That's looks nice. I always loved big bore single actions!

I just like .45 revolvers. Always have, and have had quite a few of them. I have had longer models from 4 5/8" - 6.5", but never one of the shorter models. Stainless steel because I prefer those for outdoors over blued.

The only con that I have seen thus far, is what ezra posted about the extractor. I have not seen that anywhere else in my research, but it seems to be workable.

Its role will be primarily for the woods, driving and riding horses. I carry my .357 Blackhawk for the most part in the woods, but it is a 6.5" barrel, and I want a shorter barrel.

Any day you get to walk around with a .45 LC in a cross draw holster is a good day.

Sweet pistol! I've always liked the looks of the birds head grip, but they do not fit my hand very well. I have a large grip and the bisley style grip fits it better. Have fun!

Sweet iron!! Let us know how ya like it. This is on my list as well!!

I bought it for $150 less than any local gunshop, by buying it from CTD and having it shipped to a local FFL. I couldn't believe the cost difference. One guy told me that "they are selling it for $10 over cost." I responded, "I don't care, its good for me." I may have said it a little too rudely because he was visibly taken aback.

I have purchased quite a few weapons and a whole lot of ammo from that particular store, and they said they wouldn't do the transfer for me. No problem. You just lost all of my future business.

Nice shootin iron. I'll gladly make a holster for it, I need the practice. Course you may not get the pistola back :D
