Northern Lavvu

No I haven't but I've heard they are good.

I do have NA tipi experience and while I like them a lot, they are too big for more than group or base-camp use. This looks a lot more manageable. Similar benefits with a more compact design.

Looking forward to seeing if anyone has hands-on with one!

RandyT has one. Hopefully he'll chime in. Ive been kicking around the idea for one these in winter use.

I stayed in a similar one about five years ago. Center pole, small wood stove with pipe that exited up along the center pole. For winter use you would need to add a liner in the canvas one we stayed in. Lot of condensation formed overnight but that would happen in any tent. There is not a lot of room in the smaller sizes. You can stand up but only towards the center of the tent.

The seller has a continual listing for these tents and poles on Ebay. I have been watching them for a long time but have not decided if this is the way to go.

Here's a photo of my 10 footer. Usually I don't have a fire inside but this year I got blasted with rain during set up so I ran a fire all night to dry out. I like the lavvu but it is heavy and poles are needed.

randyT ever explored some lightweight metal polls? I know lavvu.com used to sell them but last I emailed with them they were not going to offer them anymore. I'm interested in the 12ft at 35lbs and a set of polls the weight is getting up there, OK for vehichle camping but not for winter tobboganing.

I thought about liteweight poles but settled on cutting and leaving poles at various locations. I tend to revisit campsites.

Very nice. I especially like the idea of cutting and leaving poles in various locations, especially for winter camping. You could haul the tent and other gear on a sled and set it up.

Yep, been eying thing for quite a while now. will be buying one within the next month.

I was wondering if it would be possible/advisable to tie off the top to a sturdy branch to do away with the poles. I was also wondering if a similar but smaller animal (1-2 person) could be made from canvas drop cloths, maybe treated with scotch guard. Thoughts?

Doing what math I can, seems like a 10x10 pyramid would have 25% more floor space than the circle.
So far this winter our weather has bee too warm and rainy to get out..
I will take 27*F snow over 37*F rain ANY day.

I'm thinking of asking if they will make slightly larger ground cloth
